So I am not particularly immersed in the whole warhammer culture. Part of that culture, especially in online discussions, seems to include an avalanche of acronyms and terms. Generally I can sort them out on my own with a little perseverance. But a couple have escaped me. So please forgive my newbishness, but perhaps some of you can enlighten me?
At this time I only have two to ask about, but if I have more I can always come back, I guess!

What is CAD?
What does 'meta' mean in reference to the game?

CAD = Combined Arms Detachment, the basic force organization detachment as provided in the core 40k rulebook.

When people speak of the "Meta", they typically refer to the state of the game in your area and the tweaks you would have to do to your army in order to face your typical opponents.

For example, some areas might have very few Marine players, favouring xenos and other non-powered armour armies and thus higher model counts per army than other areas. This would mean that to compete in your area you would have to focus more on volume of anti-infantry fire rather than focus on weapons that will always work against power armour, such as Blasters and Plasma rifles.

Other areas might see wide-spread use of flyers and flying monstrous creatures, therefore not building a lot of anti-air into your list would be counter-productive if you play there.

Hope this helps

I usually sit down and think about any acronyms I hear for a few minutes and they come up to me when I think of the context they were used.

Except ATSKNF. I never would have figured out what that was if I hadn't heard it elsewhere.

ATSKNF means::
