All that other stuff I've been bragging about.

Hi again.

I paint a lot of other things besides DEldar.
And by a lot I mean a little.

Here is my output from the last 5ish or so years.

Snap fit marines strike the coolest pose. My first attempt at power armor. I later added squad markings and a little weathering.


You can't have Raven guard without assault marines.






You can't have Raven guard without scouts.









You could have Raven guard without a custom Kiavahr pattern Land speeder typhoon.
But I seem to have a thing for fast skimmers.

Scenery.
To ensure that I never again have to play Dark Eldar on a board without cover or LOS blocking scenery, I hastily made my own. Since I imagine DE would rather harvest low hanging fruit if they could, I made my game board with a low tech, backwater mining outpost theme. Not the prettiest, but sturdy, compact and transportable.

AOS

I'm off to a slow start refurbishing my... grand alliance destruction force. First step is rebasing.
Last week I made some proof of concept bases to see if what I had in mind would be doable.
The concept is that they will be romping around in a sundered wasteland, scattered with the remains of the poor schmucks that used to have a civilized old time there before someone opened a portal to the realm of a$$whoopin'.

First i needed a way to mass produce cobblestones and bricks.
I carved up an old card that I got with a new SIM card, and made a basic impression in some suguru.


Made some patches on the bases where i wanted the civilized bits to shine through.


Added a little sand, discarded gear and some skulls.
fast forward past all the boring painting stages and presto!












Now I have to see if I can actually fit some models on those bases...

I have been away for a little vacation ( not at sea ), but made a little progress on those bases after I got back.

Don't judge the paint quality of the models too harshly. Those are some of the first models I ever painted over a decade and a half ago, and the black orc is only half done.

Everything looks really really great, kudos, your Ravenguard look GW Studio grade.

And a nice tutorial to go with them.
Also the terrain pieces and models all look very good.

I needed a quick break from painting, and decided I wanted to try my hand at some pink foam terrain. First things first. I needed to acquire a foam cutter.

I soon found out that they are pretty expensive so I made my own with string and gum. Literally.


I decided on trying to make a ruined tower, since it would go with AoS, and could possible also double as 40K terrain, if we are playing on a feral world or something. I quickly cut out some rough boulder like shapes


And started stacking.


Happy with the shape, I started building the remains of the ruined 1st floor.
(The Astartes turned up for an inspection, looking for heresy).


Ended up with this after basing.


Added some cobblestones and discarded gear to keep in line with my AoS basing scheme.


OK. Now to paint it i realistic colors!

What do you mean weird?

I painted one layer of gray with watered down PVA and then glazed the whole thing in red green and blue to give the stone a little life. Then I started layering with semi transparent grays again.

Aaand, after a lot of washes and drybrushing, I ended up with this.




Cutting the foam and stacking the tower took only an hour or two, and the painting was done in a couple of afternoons. A fun, quick and easy build, and a great intro to working with pink foam.
For my next build I want to try and make the bricks a little less rounded and maybe make some doors and windows. But for now, back to painting DE.

Thanks. I had a laugh making that "tool". It's great using the old noodle every once in a while. Although heating up a wire with electricity is not hexactly rocket surgery.

Since Age of Sigmar is a dead system that no one plays, I must continue to ruin perfectly usable WHFB models to get them ready for not being used.
This time the 90ies snotling kit with some converted snotties from the night goblin sprues.
Oh and an oldhammer Squig-hopper thrown in for good measure.

Greatly inspired by a certain bat related plog, I wanted to create a little more scenery on the bases for this project. That had the added bonus that I could not fit as many snotlings on each base, and therefore had to spread them out over 3 bases.

Still going with the "messed up wasteland after a ruined civilization" theme.
The metal snotlings themselves were already painted by 16 year old me, so only needed "slight" improvements on the paint job. Besides, I don't want to ruin the nostalgia.





















I wanted to make it look like the squig was bouncing over stuff so I came up with the idea to pin it hovering over a chest a while back.

For a change of pace I speed painted a Skitarii SWA killteam.
"Speed painting" in my case is less than two months on 5 guys. It is not particularly faster than regular mode, but I leave the mistakes on and call them charming quirks.

The Kiavahr 2nd line troubleshooter task force.
They'll switch you off but NOT on again.






My next project will be DE related, I promise.

They look great, Scrz! I should get mine painted up, but my 'Nids have been awesome so far and I am having too much fun with them :-)

Thanks man! A lot of metallic parts makes them pretty quick to get done. Painting the inside of the trench coat was the hardest part.
SWA and the Heralds of ruin kill team rules has gotten me all excited about skirmish level games. I'll definitely get the AoS skirmish expansion as well. It is such a great excuse to own models that I think looks cool but don't wan't to start an entire army with. I just purchased components to put together a Night Lords warband, so that I can feel like I am playing to the fluff when they lose.

Finally finished these guys. They did good in SWA, but now with the new kill team rules I have to add some cultists. I might add a marine or two in heresy pattern armor as well.

One of the benefits of quitting 40K is that I get a lot of time to complete my other backlogged projects.

For instance I finally finished these Orks from 1996/2002, just in time to see them discontinued from Age of Sigmar.



I guess I'll proxy them as a tribe of really fashion conscious Bonesplitterz or something...


Having learned nothing, I continued re-basing and refurbishing the rest of my old collection:





Some of them are still technically usable even.

Like these guys, who will be making an debut in Warcry as soon as I figure out how to roll for initiative.
