Hello everyone. I'm both new to Dark Eldar and to The Dark City. I have a local tournament coming up in a few weeks. It is a Kill teams game from the Games Workshop rule set. There will be four players, each in their own corner of the 4x4 set up. An objective will be in the center of the map. At the end of turn 5. The player who has the closest model to the objective wins.

My list: 198pts.

135, Kabalite warriors x5, raider with dark lance, enhanced Aether sails, night shields, splinter racks.

This unit will be hanging out on the outer reaches of the table. Taking small reliable kills. The Dark lance is to poke down any other vehicles that move to sit on top the objective. Then on turn 5, I will use all my extra movement speed to get to the objective.

63, reavers x3 with cluster caltrops.

In this team I'll have my specialists.
Combat specialist - Killer instinct.
Dirty fighter specialist - murderous blows
Weapon specialist - machine saboteur

I plan to have these guys moving around the battlefield, diging out those units in heavy cover or packing big guns.

My largest question is. Do hammer of wrath hits count as close combat attacks? I may have overlooked it in the core rule book. If I did, could you give me the page number to reference and if the book is he paperback or the hard cover.

I don't have alot of room to work because of what I own. My original list would have me assembling and painting a venom, beast Master and seven beast's in an afternoon. Assuming they were delivered on time. This is not something "I" am not capable of yet.

Any advice to optimize this list or how to use it would be appreciated! I'm expected to bring 5 deathwatch Marines. I think the Dark Eldar would be more fun, and in this small blood bath, quite leathal. I have only played one game with them before. The victory was snatched away because the Archon was loud and announced his plans assuming he was unstoppable. I will not make the same mistake!

I played it yesterday.

What I ended up taking was a 5 man Kabalite warrior squad in a raider with splinter racks. A beast Master with 8 kymiras.

And omg! I won. This is also my first win playing 40k!

So in addition to the center objective which if you control it you get 3+d3 points. (No one got it.) You get one point for first blood. One point for each enemy who's team breaks. (Lose more then half your models) and one point for each warlord kill. 4 player matches. I got two warlord kills plus everyone on the table broke. I went last so no first blood for me. Best part of the match is no one had more then three models left on the table at the end of turn five. I had my three specialists. The necrons had one wraith. The blood Angels were wiped, and the Raven guard had a scout an assult marine and the 30th anniversary marine.

A horrible but humorous moment is when my raider got destroyed by a wraith, it fell off the terrain and landed on the wraith breaking the model. I offered to buy a new one for him if we can't fix it. After a few "serves you right" statements. Luckily the damage was all done to the super glue. The Kymiras did a decent job, but I was assulting into a building and couldn't fit them all into melee combat.

Anyways, it was a super fun game and I'm glad I played the people I did. The first game that was played by four others, had one person wiped and each other player lost almost nothing.  Everyone in my game got enough points to take the lead positions.

Ultimately, I ran the list in my original post the Monday before in the same game type in a 4 on 4 team match. I learned after the game that I needed to focus the warlords to get the points and not worry about the rest. Focus the objectives... I listen to the splintermind podcast. I should have paid attention, but I keep getting blood thirsty when I see all the high toughness units falling to poison shots.

Did you end up upgrading the weapons on any of your Kabalites or just let them tough it out with Splinter Rifles?

Splinter rifles. The twin linked from the splinter racks allowed me to take out a couple units when snap shooting on first turn when I moved into firing range. Being dark Eldar I was kind of left to my own devices till i took out two warlords in a hail of poison fire. By turn three I was staying in the middle and rapid firing anything that approached.

Right on. I'm supposed to start playing a buddy of mine in Kill Team and I really want to take the Kabalite gunboat, but I'm just worried that the Raider will get smoked in turn one and everyone will die in the blast. Lol.

That is a real fear there. I'm not sure how things would have gone if it wasn't for it being a four player free for all. I chose to run the Kymiras in as fast as I could. I'm going to read up and see if a venom next to a raider with splinter racks gets twin linked. If it does I'm going to run that in the next "friendly" game with five Kabalite warriors.

Five Kabalite warriors plus a raider with splinter racks and night shields and grizzled trophies. Then a venom in the fast attack with the splinter cannon upgrade. Assuming that it gets the splinter rack bonus. I need to check my codex.

Edit: yea no... That's not a thing. Thinking it over, venom's are a huge waist of points in a kill teams game. I wonder if hellions are worth their points here? I'm about to own a few of them

Now that GoC is out we're all going to be swimming in Hellions! I hope they are good in Kill Team, or maybe they could be fun in Apocalypse, running like a huge swarm of them. It would look cool anyway!

The splinter racks only give the unit embarked twin linked.

Venoms and their 12 shots is kinda over kill for a single model, so in kill team it's not exactly ideal unless it can be given split fire which I believe is unlikely.

Hellions aren't too bad at the point level though beast masters are cheaper.

Mandarkes and reavers are a good solid kill team I've found.

I went with the beast Master with 8 kymiras and the 5 Kabalite warriors with the raider and splinter racks to another tournament day. I had to drop after the first round due to life issues. I scored first blood though. And if I had asked which one of the wraith guard was his warlord instead of assuming the one with his sword in the air. I could have scored first blood and a warlord kill.

The other three players were watching my Kymiras, and even after I took the first blood with a Kabalite. Everyone just kept watching the Kymiras. They are scary, I watched in my first game how the weight of attacks and the initiative 6 took space marine after space marine. I have really fallen in love with them.

I bought six of the Gangs of Commorrah. I wanted the bikes and I'm so excited to get the hellions. They are so cool looking. They might not be the best choice; but will be alot better for playing with the less cutthroat players here. I'm going to try hellions in a kill teams next time. I think the speed and the two assult shots before the charge will be a handful.

The tournament games have had this king of the hill match twice now. I should have said my reasoning for the venom. I would have been ensuring I kill a warlord each turn. After this second game I played. Though only round one. I feel it would have taken too long to get into visual range vs anyone watching for it.
