| Well, when I think purple DE, that's what I get: You would probably get that colour mixing Warlock Purple with Hormagaunt purple, and adding skull white for the highlights. I personnaly think white and black goes well with it, as light blue does. There's something like that that I really like in the model showcase section of the codex. I would inspire myself from that. Anyway they're plenty of examples on the net. Hope you find what you want. _________________ "Marines for breakfast." - Kabal of the Black Mist ...... 1000pts and growing. - Guzzgot the Tornicator's Waaagh !!! ...... 2500pts | |

| I thought about that one too. Basically it depends on what You want to achieve. Purple (like Liche Purple) is pretty saturated and mid-toned colour, so You want to avoid similar ones (especially if it is Your main colour). Best use either dark or light colours, like Black, white/light grey, teal, yellow.
Red don't look good (it blends), just as blue. Green (especially "juicy eyesore" green) IMHO look awful or cool, depends on ammount of it. in 50-50 tario, it looks "extreme cybergoth".
[edit] Ninja'd. But ditto.

| You could try Hawk Turquoise highlighted with Ice blue with black under armor. Red might look nice also. I use Teal as an accent color using a darkened Murderous Magenta from P3(Think black and Warlock Purple). I use Bubonic Brown on the sails of Raiders. People seem to like it. You can see my painting log if you want to see those colors together. Happy painting! _________________ "Solutions are good, how many dark eldar archons can you find sitting in their throne rooms whining that they used to rule the universe? | I used mostly Liche Purple as the midtone, Warlock Purple as a highlight, and a blend of Warlock Purple and Carnal Pink for an extreme highlight, with straight Carnal Pink here and there. Regarding colors to use with it, white works well, green can work, for metals I used Blighted Gold highlighted with Brass Balls. Blighted Gold is teh most awesome gold evar. | |

| Paint scheme-Murderous Magenta from P3 mixed with a little black highlighted up to Murderous Magenta. I blend up to Fortress Grey. The teal is WebwayGreen(The mix from GW site with Orkhide Green instead of DA Green). The glittery Venom was given a layer of teal Tamiya Clear (Mixed blue and green clears) with Liquitex iridescent medium mixed in. Tamiya had an interruption in production and hadn't shipped it in a while. I just bought more and will coat all of my other vehicles in December some time. Oh, and do steal away! _________________ "Solutions are good, how many dark eldar archons can you find sitting in their throne rooms whining that they used to rule the universe? | Well, you could go with a minty green or a soft blue to contrast with purple, orange could work as well. Your best bet is to grab a color wheel and track down exactly what you're looking for. Here's a basic one _________________ | |

| I love the picture that Candice Heart-Reaper posted for a sceame. I would go with a darker purple like the violet on Brisbane's color wheel. RIght across from the purple is yellow. depending on your prefrence of darkness I prefer starting with a foundation paint. So hormigaunt purple washed with waterd down chaos plack and then highlighted with a complimentry purple. Then some smaller details like gems and hair you could go with some ilidan darksun or tausept ochre. Thats just what I would try. | |

| @evil space elves - ahhh this is gonna show how noobish I am at painting but what's the P3 thing? And murderous magenta is not a gw paint isn't it? And with the tamiya paints, where could I grab some of that? @brisbane - same thing, this is gonna show how noobish I am with painting...but how do you use that? @marquis - I reckon! But I was planning to go with liche purple instead of hormagaunt...or should I go hormagaunt first, then liche purple? _________________ Thou shalt not use heavy breathing and "I am your father" as a battlecry when wielding a powersword and entering an assault...ALSO! | I prefer to start with foundations for the coverage and then highlight and dry brush with normal paints. But you should chose the colors you think are correct for your army. I did two test models using the guys that hang off a raider. maybe try that first and see what works for you. | |

P3 is the line of Privateer Press paints (think Warmachine/Hordes). They are like the GW Foundation paints, only their entire line of paint has the crazy amount of pigment in them. Awesome coverage that covers better than Warlock Purple or other GW paints. Tamiya stuff is usually available at model shops or online from hobby suppliers. _________________ "Solutions are good, how many dark eldar archons can you find sitting in their throne rooms whining that they used to rule the universe? | @gunnerboy: The wheel shows you what colors compliment one another. So you can create patterns and schemes by choosing colors that go well together (or clash). The idea is to create more natural color schemes. They look more professional and natural. Usually, the easiest thing to do is pick colors near each other on the wheel. You can then create contrast (gems, sashes, etc) by picking colors on the other end of the wheel. Keep in mind this is a huge oversimplification but hopefully it helps to get the idea across. _________________

BOLS ARTICLE PART 1 First, that chick looks AMAZING! Second, this is a great example of the awesome sauce that is the color wheel. Gar chose to make purple his primary and accented that with yellow. If you look at the wheel, you'll see that purple and yellow are across from each other. Just a real world instance of the uses of the wheel. The forum header is another _________________

Sp while not directed to me, purple and blue, or at least every version of it I have seen do not work together. To get a good contrast, the purple or the blue need to be a much softer shade and the DE tend to look like "girly" men with poor fashion sense. You can also use a violet blue and contrast with a bit more of an orange yellow color or use violet red and then use a green yellow. There are a lot of options, but a good rule is to use the contrasting color on the color wheel or a color very near the contrast. Or if that does not appeal to you, do what ever you like. _________________ The Dread Pirate Garness Visit my occasionally update blog

| @gar - thank you for answering though! yeah, I think the only way to go with purple is like everyone else...I'll find a way to make mine stand out, might draw runes on it or stuff! but I was just wondering what other good highlight colors can I use other than a lighter version of the base. _________________ Thou shalt not use heavy breathing and "I am your father" as a battlecry when wielding a powersword and entering an assault...ALSO! Anyway check list of colours in tutorials (as well as 3 parts of Gar's article, not sure if first part have links to rest) | |

| Hi I've just started and this is my first - I did some dark red but they looked a bit scabby and brown so went for purple. I wasn't happy with the old almost black with crazy edge highlight look so painted in a fashion that suited by own ability. Hope is helps as a colour guide. It's a little crude as I'm still getting used to the models as I've been a Plague Marine player forever. Purple armour Black body suit Silver metal Turquoise cloth Yellow lenses | |
