| Ran across this: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/01/forge-world-inspired-eldar-corsair.html any experience with doing this sort of thing? I've never tried it, but it almost looks feasible. Well, more feasible than dropping $$$$$$$ on the FW kit. Now if I could find an article on casting las blasters and corsair missile launchers as well... _________________ "Solutions are good, how many dark eldar archons can you find sitting in their throne rooms whining that they used to rule the universe? | I have done a few things like this, either press-molding against a flat surface, or making a simple two-piece GS mold. They do not work well for finely detailed pieces, but for something simple like these wings, they should be absolutely fine. Definitely better than $$$$$ from FW.
The method he has described is fairly quick and simple, and should work really well I think. Go for it!
As for casting other stuff, Ron's other articles on casting and molding are a good start. You can also check out something like the Warforge, where there was some excellent videos on proper casting, but it was fairly involved for what you want, I think. _________________ Mod Squad Forum rules, please read ................. or else we release the Khymerae! The Serpents' Breath - the Dark Eldar corsair scourge Hive Fleet Void Riven & WIP thread

| it has pros and cons. Its decent for small flat pieces, I used it for marine shoulder pads Icons and for shield designs. The downside is Green stuff is not very strong, and these would likely break easily.for the wings, I would almost be tempted to make them out of sheet styrene. OR if you are feeling really froggy, make them like paper dolls. Fold paper up 2 or 3 times, cut the pattern, then use a moderate amount of white glue to add strength. Add a plastic cap across the top and your done. I've used paper several times, and with several layers of paper and white glue its pretty strong. Hmmm, I feel a tutorial coming on. I have found at my local hobby lobby small resin casting boxes for little pieces like this with the mold material and resin for around $20. Good little kits. But Gobsmakked is right, its not very good for detailed pieces. _________________ The Dread Pirate Garness Visit my occasionally update blog | |

| To be honest GS is good for really flat pieces. I doubt there is possibility to make GS Blaster without rubber mold because even with lubricant piece would simply stuck. You could carefully push putty inside two halves and then press them together. Made from Milliput superfine, dyed in blue (so I can see details) and mixed with Vaseline (my personal "magic trick"). Sadly, crappy camera blurred mesh but holes are 0,5mm wide. I did it with rubber mold (wouldn't dare to make it from putty) but I think GS revers (beveled hexes) would work as mold. I would seek for Silicone in tubes, one used for insulating sanitation. I think You can get it in small tubes. I did my first mold from it. @GAR I often use Super Glue for that. In fact, my... new attempt to make venom have crown from glued paper, tho it is covered with putty. | |

| Super is really good no doubt, but more expensive than white glue. Here, 2 ounce bottle superglue $4 USD, 8 ounce bottle white glue, $1 at most. _________________ The Dread Pirate Garness Visit my occasionally update blog | |

| There is also air-dryed paper clay available at Michael's and the like for about $5 per large brick. Might also work if you sealed it aferwards for a bit more strength.
Re: the low strength of GS, I often mix it 50-50 with Milliput. Very soft and workable but dries a lot faster, holds sharper detail better (I think), and is very strong. I used that in bulk to fill the centre fuselage on my VR and once fully set, it is tough. _________________ Mod Squad Forum rules, please read ................. or else we release the Khymerae! The Serpents' Breath - the Dark Eldar corsair scourge Hive Fleet Void Riven & WIP thread

| In a bind, you could also use plumber putty.
I used to use it on some of my WW2 figures when putting them on Washers. Its super sticky, smells horrid, but dries hard as a brick and can be sanded, drilled and painted on.
I'm not sure it would be great as a Green Stuff replacement, because it is a little brittle, but it is an option for some base work options.
MOD HAT ON. We might be getting a bit off topic here, so if this goes to much away from casting, I'll open a new thread and move the OT threads there. Just sayin... MOD HAT OFF
Is it weird I modded myself??
What does come to mind for the bade work it you have some nice detail piece, you could use plumber putty as a "bulk filler" and then put the flatter GS on top of it. GS can be expensive and any fillers that help in that role make it more viable, financially. _________________ The Dread Pirate Garness Visit my occasionally update blog

| that link was more interesting than your average 'mold ur own bits' article. cheers mate.
ive been experimenting with 'Instant Mold' (easily googled- theres other brands out there too:EasyMold i think i saw) which i got from coolmini. you get several smallish translucent blocks of on first glance appears to be a hot glue stick(maybe it is something similar? perhaps some kind of silicon?) you use boiling water to make it soft, press your bit in, or even encase you bit for a 3d cast. it sets quick smart. you remove your bit/free your bit with a knife, and like magic one almost perfect mold. they rekon it'll duplicate any surface, i can get pretty close on some fairly detailed stuff after several hours playing with it over 2-3 sittings.
you'll most likely need a few trial runs for each new bit, it can be a little tricky to start with because certain things dont quite come out right possibly due to what you use to make your bits with, its not so good for say long thin gun barrels. ive got green and grey stuff atm, more luck with grey. there can be some messing around with how much putty to use for a bit.
i tried some clag modeling putty rubish that come out like really fine polystyrene. great for ripping appart and making rocks out of. or the silly critters on the paackage. fun for the kids. but for casting NO. one unopened pack seems to have dried out in a couple months. utter rubbish. waste of money. bad. there. vented. ahhhh.... it *was* only 6 bucks a pack. anyhoo..
you get, i think, seven 'sticks' of instant mold in a blister pack for about 10-15 bucks depending on where you go. its REUSEABLE. its well worth it if your into making smaller parts, reprints of virtually anything you can touch with a texture. also saw a how to vid on you tube.
after a bit of messing around i seem to have it working well with mentioned coloured stuff
i'll just add keep in mind how important it is to make sure the mold is dry when you fill it with putty. or it slips and deforms, and you get water distorting the putty in the mold. _________________ I am the Master of Darkness, and of the Abyss... | *Thread necromancy*
I'm interestsd in making a mold of the Scourge dark lance + arm, as well as the ravager dark lances. Anyone try this method before? Pour liquid blue stuff over your bit, let it set, pop the bit out, then fill the mold with a combo of Magic Sculpt and GS?

| I myself used some blue stuff (from green stuff world) with fine milliput, it took some tries (mainly to reduce flash) and is hard to get really good (it is slightly brittle, I used it for some ork arms and guns for my dad and it breaks easy, maybe that adding some GS might help there but I have not tested that). But for the amount of detail it captures I really like blue stuff and I think there is no real reason why I should not work.

| Thanks--I ordered some off eBay. I've got some fine milliput and GS so I'll experiment with ratios and hopefully hit upon something effective. So long as the dark lances look half-decent, I don't mind hiding imperfections beneath greenstuff wiring and decor. _________________ Help the covens kitbash by contributing to the Model Dimensions Database.

| I use Greenstuff molds all the time actually.
Heck i have like 20 Greenstuff weapons on my SoB.
Get quick mold rubber (some company has a brained call bluestuff) makes it easy.
NOTE: You can use Paper clips or other metal rods for support when making them, wrap the Greenstuff around the rod and then mold. _________________ New to Blogging, just starting https://maddpaint.blogspot.com/
