So, how does the Clone Field work now?

How does this piece of wargear work in 6th edition when not in a Challenge?

In a challenge, it is pretty clear how it works. However, outside of a challenge, you don't allocate hits to models, only to units. So:

A) Right before the wound rolls, declare that your Clone Field wearer will take the wounds, and negate however many you rolled for.
B) After the wound rolls, declare that your Clone Field wearer will take the wounds, and negate however many you rolled for.
C) You're out of luck, and the Clone Field is useless.

And before you say "You should just stick with the Shadowfield", I'm more specifically talking about Urien.

beginning of each Fight sub-phase in which the bearer is
locked in close combat, roll a D3 to represent how many clone
images are in effect. The result is the number of hits upon the
bearer that he may completely nullify in that Fight sub-phase,
just before the roll To Wound”.

So I'm afraid the clonefield is now only usefull in challenges. As in 6th the hits are not allocated, only the wounds (page 25 of main rulebook). So that would be sorta C... Not completely useless... You'll just have to issue challenges all the time.

They really should've FAQed this so it works like B.

Yeah if it negated wounds rather then hits, it would be a nice piece of kit. Could help protect the squad a bit, but still be vulnerable to a torrent of attacks.
