| So I have been learning to play and have been playing Dark Eldar for the past 6 months or so. At first I started out with a typical venom spam list which worked pretty well, just staying out of range and kiting people around focusing on their long range weapons. Now my lists have transformed into a more diverse and effective army. I usually play shooting but recently I have added in a mega killy close combat unit. I have found that over the past few games that things in cover or where I can't easily shoot at them are a problem. Also tossing 9 venoms worth of splinter shots into a unit of 3+ save people or hordes of guardsmen in cover is not too effective.
To solve this I have added in a close combat aspect into my army. Usually It has consisted of a unit of 10 wyches in a raider but I have not had too much success with them for clearing things in cover or simply killing too much. Now I have a unit which consists of the following:
Archon w/ Shadowfield, Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Venom Blade, Haywire Grenades Drazhar 8 Incubi in a raider with disintegrator cannon
Now I know it is a butt load of points but so far it has done a very good job for what it is meant for which is, being surviv-ish-ble (more so than wyches that is), clearing things in cover, eating up most anything without a good invuln save in close combat.
What do you all think of this? Have you tried something like this?
Remember I use a mostly shooty army with one close combat element (I also use units of 5 wyches and reavers but they don't count as close combat dedicated units) | |

| I could imagine it becoming an instant target for all firepower. Granted, it would pull shooting away from everything else while your unit of elf marines takes a pounding, but that's a lot of points to suddenly see going down in a terrific hail of fire. _________________ "I came to bring the pain, hardcore from the brain/Let's go inside my astral plane." - Method Man, Archon of the Wu Tang Kabal. -1d4chan

| Very killy! Maybe too killy... Drazhar is amazing, but I'm wondering if there could be a better place to spend all those points since the unit is already killy enlighten to take on anything but pallies. I'd suggest dropping drazhar giving the archon a huskblade and optionally throw in a haermy for a pain token since this unit is going to attract a lot of fire. Cheers! | |

| personally I find it too overpointed. I would suggest if you are looking for that very powerful but survivable counter assault unit that is cheap would be either Beasts or Harlies. First one being that beasts bring out a ton of attacks and with the addition of baron can pass wounds around with his LoS and can take quite a punishment.
Harlies on the other hand not only put out a ton of attacks, but with stealth and shrouding giving them a 2+ coversave in any terrain and a 4+ in the open, as well as being able to ignore terrain effects period makes them a great assault unit that gets there quickly. _________________ Status: Usurping Kabal leadership for his Patriarch

| looks good mate, make sure you pair it with some other "in-your-face" models, like bladevaning reavers so it doesnt take the entirity of the return fire. | |

| Grots with haemy are a good smack down unit to, very survivable and you get to sprew some liquifiers before charging. But they are more survivable then beat down.
Drazhar is what is causing that unit to be soo expensive and with the FAQ that says he won't get feel no pain from shots that cause instant death I don't see him being worth it. I'd say cut him for a haemy with a liquifier, give your archon a huskblade as well as his venom blade, and maybe use Drazhar's model as just a Klaivex. And add some aethersails to that raider with some Night shields. If your going to sink that many points into a unit you might as well sink a few more to protect it. Aethersails on a unit like that is just Jaw dropping to your opponent, 12" + 2D6" + 18" in a single turn, and a 4+ cover save the following turn. _________________ The worst sort of protection is confidence.
