| After seeing Gobsmakked's really cool DE Pathfinder conversion, I mulled over making some rules for a unit of DE Pathfinders, as you can see from the thread name I called them Darklighters. (If we now see that name turn up in IA12 we'll know the Forgeworld guys visit here and approve ) Anyway what I was thinking was Wargear and Stats as Trueborn but adding USR Scouts and a Hexrifle (replacing Splinter rifle) each for 20pts. Squad size 3-5 Upgrades Camo cloaks maybe? What are your thoughts? The inspiration can be seen at https://thedarkcity.forummotion.com/t226-the-great-kabalite-exchange | |

| I'm not the best at costing models but 20pts for a Trueborn who has a Hexrifle for 20pts is pretty cheap, 5 of them for 100pts would be a bargain, too much so. _________________ Sky Serpent - Drukhari 40k My Facebook blog, follow for battle reports, tactics, painting and conversions | |

yeah I wondered about that, but at 22 they are as much as a Reaver so I went lower. Would 25 be too much though?

| Like that idea, as for the points and stats: Trueborn stats, with stealth, MtC, Infiltrate, normal sniper rifles, PfP, NV, Fleet. For 15-16 pts. Squad size 3-10
That as option hexrifle for 6-8pts, and let say only 3 guys per 5 can take them. Option for cheep DL(10pts-max 2 in squad) and cammo cloaks(1pts-or free)
And we have nice shooty unit for decent points. _________________ ....shhh, it's okay, it's just me....

| They are pretty much Eldar rangers with assault weapons and added rules and better stats, so they should be more than 22 (unless hexrifles are an options and not added automatically, of course, then the price should be wuite lower). _________________ Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Background Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Painting BlogModelled: 2753 pts Painted: 2263pts - shamroll wrote:

| What's the points cost of a Ranger?
Since all the craftworlders are overcosted anyway being an older dex, it probably isn't best to compare to another codex but to try and keep the costs consistent within a dex.
so at 25 points are we in the ballpark?

| They should be keeped simple in base, you can have tons of options to customise them.
If we try compare them to somthing from DE dex to best units to do it are Scourges and Trueborns. Scourges cost a bit but have shardcarabine ghostarmour and jump packs, darklighters wont have it...instead sniper rifle, some rules to express idea(infiltration, scout ect), some uniqe equipment? like ranger long rifle.
With this their basic cost shouldnt be more than cos of a scourge, ofc it may be bigger if you want to give them "kick" and have them hexrifles as basic weapon....with that and "pathfinder" rules(stealth ect) 24-26pts is somthing to think about but in the end it needs playtesting.
What slot would they be?

| I like it, though if two are able to take dark lances they should be elite or even heavy support, especially considering there are no HS infantry in our codex. _________________ Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Background Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Painting BlogModelled: 2753 pts Painted: 2263pts - shamroll wrote:

| Our elites are packed to the brim I like to se them in troops since warriors arent that shooty. Maybe only 0-2 as troops....rest in HS?? _________________ ....shhh, it's okay, it's just me....

| I would put them as Troops, same as CWE. I see them as support troops who help pave the way for the various flying flimsies to sneak in and survive long enough to do their jobs.
Complementing rather than competing with those same flimsies for slots. _________________ Mod Squad Forum rules, please read ................. or else we release the Khymerae! The Serpents' Breath - the Dark Eldar corsair scourge Hive Fleet Void Riven & WIP thread

| I'm fine with them being troops, as long as they are only able to take 1/none dark lance. Should the have 2 plus all the snipers, they'd be an awesome anti-tank infantry squad at range (unlike the trueborn with quite a lower one) plus the ability to take out a large portion of the eventual infantry inside. If so, I'd say they should be HS. _________________ Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Background Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Painting BlogModelled: 2753 pts Painted: 2263pts - shamroll wrote:

| Suppose so... Though I quite like the idea of incorporating Dark Lances into a Sniper squad... _________________ Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Background Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Painting BlogModelled: 2753 pts Painted: 2263pts - shamroll wrote:

| I was thinking Dark Lances in a sniper squad seemed a bit odd really, almost like trying to make them too much of a swiss army knife, when they are specialists.

| @up Look at DL it has scope! so its sniper weapon:P btw sniping dosnt have to be just anty-infantry, you can snipe out some vital parts on vehicle...with a LANCE! _________________ ....shhh, it's okay, it's just me....

This is more in line with my thinking, too. There are enough other ways to get DL's into your army, whereas these are specialists offering something completely different. I would keep them as simple as possible too, same as the CWE equivalent, with either a Shard long-gun or the existing Hexrifle. The same options, with a possible squad leader upgrade and the usual gear. I think that this fits them better fluff-wise, and would also give them a better chance of being officially incorporated at some point. | Sure fine by me. Then they'd be troops, I guess. Or as an alternate idea, that they'd be HS unless you have an Archon/whatever fitting, where they would be troops (like Wracks with Heamon)? _________________ Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Background Kabal of the Shadow Phoenix - Painting BlogModelled: 2753 pts Painted: 2263pts - shamroll wrote:
