| I'd like to take this sombre opportunity to say thank you to my Wyches.
You've done amazingly all these years and I have many fond memories.
Sorry you never got fully painted.
I'll see you in four years, maybe.

| So true and such a pity. I was really hoping that GW was going to make the invuln apply to over watch saves, but that didn't happen. Then they took away the ability to purchase haywire grenades on top of that. Quite the disappointment as is MUCH of the codex. | |

| Fairwell Wyches. They will be disappearing from many lists. But lets not despair to much, why not a nice little thread praising the victories of the humble Wych? Hit us with your best stories so we can remember them fondly. To start off two from my recent and not so recent memory. Some of my proudest Wych moments. 1) Wych with furious charge, + 1 st drug and hydra gauntlets took out farsight and his last remaining body guard, gained fearless and claimed the objective to win the game. 2) 20 Wyches, jumped out of two raiders and each squad assaulted an Imperial knight. Both knights fell. The first stayed where it was and ahem, went catastrophic and blew the wyches away with the fireworks. The other scattered backwards onto a punisher tank and blew it up. Value for points, yes thank you. Will miss these moments | |

| So there they were, backs against some ruins. Their venom had been wrecked by lascannon fire. A pair of Blood Angel predators were wheeling towards the main force of the Dark Eldar forces. The moment the predators came near, out they lept, on top of the first predator placing sticky haywire grenades all over the chassis. A silent EMP burst and the predator goes dead. They slit the pilot's throat with a wych knife. For some reason this act wasn't painful and they feel no better for it. The other predator keeps rolling forward, completely unaware of the fate that has befell his comrade. (I hid them so well behind the wreckage my opponent forgot they were there)
The predator pilot still on the move hears something that sounds like foot steps on the top of the tank. The wyches that had disabled the other predator were now on his! Another EMP burst, and the tank stops dead in it's tracks. The wyches throw a volley of plasma grenades inside. Trying to make sure not to inflict any pain, because they don't want to grow more powerful. "Where's the challenge in that?," they think.
The battle is coming to an end. The ambassador who is now nude (I have nude women as custom objectives. what can I say?) needed to be rescued at all costs. A Storm Raven hovers down to try and get her out before anymore pain or humiliation befalls her! But, what's that in the shadows? In a burst of speed never before seen by the pilot, five wyches seemingly fly onto his vessel (rolled a 12 on the charge) and crash it to the ground. Again, killing the pilot in the most humane way possible.
Mephiston hears a crash in the distance, and realizes this single squad of xenos scum has wrecked a third of his army, and this he will not have. He's at their position in no time at all. The wyches are cleaved in twain, save one, who nimbly dodges his last attack, then turns, shakes her ass at him in a mocking gesture, and runs away.

Haywire grenades don't forge a good narrative guys. Good thing we got rid of them.

This was fantastic! Very funny It was easily one of the most amazing things a squad of mine ever did. He'd only played against my kabal list before so he didn't know what wyches were capable of. After the game we were discussing the game and he was taken aback that a 60 point unit destroyed 300 points of his army. The first thing out of his mouth was "Overpowered." I say, "Dude, you never shot at them. If you did they'd be paste, and then you engaged them in close combat. That's where they want to be! Well probaby not against Mephiston but they survive better there. I put the fear in him though. Every game after that he'd waste everything trying to kill my wyches and left everything else alone. That is, until I introduced him to a grot bomb. But that's a story for another day.

| They once were the last (!) unit i had left against a IG gunline and won me the game! Jinking away, multicharging a tank (explodes) and a unit of guards, getting linebraker and an objective I played my last game with the old dex today, they performed really good again. Still better than termis!! Good times... | |

| I remember all the times in 5th edition that the wyches came out of the webway, either saw a group of their craftworld cousins, or a nearby dreadnought. Then soon after would be busy with ripping them to shreds before they could blink an eye. | |

| There is this small voice in my head that is whispering....Wyche supplement. What better way to sell more DE minis without diluting or competing with other new DE releases. Six months or so and we'll see some type of release that puts Wychs up front again.
But then this really loud voice shouts...no GW is really that daft.

| I haven't been playing DE for too long, but I've got two good wych stories:
The first was against a Salamander-Space Wolf drop pod army (6th edition). One my wych squads had been pinned, within 8" of a drop pod. One of them threw a haywire, because she had nothing better to do. She rolls...a six. For the effect of a haywire...a six! For the penetration table...shaken. I still thought it was funny that she was able to pull that off.
The second was a 500 pt 7th game against Chaos Daemons. My wyches tarpitted a Bloodthirst for at least two or three game turns (with some wrack help). They were actually putting forcing him to roll armor saves too! Had their syren not died in an unfortunate vehicle explosion (she had an agonizer), I think they would have killed him.

| Not getting 4++ against overwatch was a wasted opportunity for GW, I have to admit that.
But I wouldn't call doom and gloom just yet, if you can still field squads of 15, with a succubus with a WWP they might still have a place. Especially with the new power from pain meaning they could potentially have FNP 5+ on the turn they come in from reserve, and FC on the turn they will be able to charge. The new drugs are also good, with the succubus benefitting from almost all the rolls including +1WS and +1LD, the only real dud being +1I. +1T is a huge boon though. Combined with some reavers to screen the blob and give them a cover save when deepstriking and things might not be that bad.
They are resilient in assault and have OS (not sure why anyone would take the new formation, when OS is out bread and butter with dedicated transports).
This of course hinges on squads of 15 still being able to be fielded.

| Sleeping on it, I think that in the right circumstances, Wyches could actually be a potent cc unit. If you can fuel them up and boost the pfp table, get either +1 St, A or perhaps toughness on the drug table, late game, could be good. If you have FnP, Furious Charge and Rage, assaulting any standard unit, hitting first at strength 5 potentially with 4 or 5 (rage is +2 attacks right?) attacks, they might cut something up.
Late game, wyches may be quite good at getting rid of any units hunkering down on objectives. If all goes well. Cant see it as a competitive option, too much risk and reliance on dice, but perhaps they wont be completely redundant :/

This of course hinges on squads of 15 still being able to be fielded. I've been doing some serious "research" on the new combat drugs and while overall they make the offensive power of the squad about 9% worse. The T1 bonus makes them 33% tougher. The leadership bonus makes them about 11% more likely to stay in combat, and honestly the I1+ bonus isn't bad. Makes them about 10% more likely to escape being overrun if they do flee. They wych weapons are abysmal though. Unless there's something hidden in the profile. Like Hydra gauntlets are bad now, but if they're AP3 or a free upgrade, they're better than their previous incarnation.

| I will not abandon my wyches! I've put too much effort into actually getting a squad almost finished to let them sit there gathering dust. Besides, the shop down the road from is having a clearout of GW stuff, and last I knew there was a box of wyches going for twelve pounds. Bloodbride escort for a beatstick Succubus, that's my (optimistic, no doubt misguided) thinking! | |

This of course hinges on squads of 15 still being able to be fielded. Surely the Succubus would be better served by webway-portalling in with an escort that won't die around her as soon as any weapon is aimed in their general direction? An escort that actually starts with FNP, actually does tear things up when they finally charge, or can shoot something good on the turn they arrive, instead of just splinter pistols? Taking 15 Wyches knowing that 8 of them will die before they can do anything, but at least you still have 7 left doesn't seem like the best use of a WWP. On the other hand, Wyches on Raiders... might not be awful. Might even be slightly better than before, as they don't have the need to collect pain tokens any more, just wait a few turns and soak the pain in. The trick is going to be getting them to survive that long. - Mr Believer wrote:

Ha! Now you claim to care about our cults, when but a short while ago you were utterly callous to our plight. I name thee false, o Archon, I name thee devious! Commendable, of course, well done! Seriously though, Mr. B., I don't doubt your enthusiasm for Wyches, but with only one squad that you recently got at a discount and haven't quite finished yet, it doesn't sound as if you have a lot invested in them. Sorry!
