Carnevale - anyone played it?

So I've been following a Kickstarter for the new incarnation of Carnevale

I was wondering if anyone had played the original and could give me any insights on whether it is a fun game system to play etc etc?

Just looking for some guiding info as I really like some of the models and the whole theme and would like to back a relatively small company in general for goodies! But still want a decent game to play at the end of the day obviously.

Any thoughts on this game welcome
