| You know what assault army might work? Footslogging 2 units of grotesques with two haemonculi, with two units of three taloi, bubbling one unit of three cronoi. It's not fast, but having T5+ models with a 50% ability to shrug off anything that touches them might work. 'Course, one vindicator and your day is wrecked. And so my rant about shooting continues. | |

| There are 4 things worth bringing for assault phase, grotesques, incubi, talos, and reavers. Other than those stay away from cc unless it is late game. | |

Personally, I don't think Incubi are worth it. They have no grenades, are far too fragile and can be locked down by a single sentinel. If you high volume, mid-strength AP2 shots then take some Disintegrators.

| Incubi do suffer but are still great mulchers of small elite squads. They troll terminators/gk on the charge (especially following the shooting phase). You get them in turn 4 they will punish any infantry unit silly enough to sit in the open! Not as effective without grenades but that is the only real change alongside the point cost. Not perhaps viable in a super competitive list but I think they can still have a place. | |

But, why would I use them over disintegrators? Which can also punish small, elite squads - but from 36" away and without worrying about overwatch or the like.

| I guess if you need lances? One of the biggest things lacking in our melee section is ap2, we have I in the archite glaive (always thought it odd an Archon cant use an Archite glaive but hey ho) and we have incubi and to some extent scissorhands. If you want an assault list you are going to need AT so you won't have dissies really so perhaps they might fill that void? | |

| The second answer I guess is that the original question was 'is assault-based DE viable?' - if you take dissies instead then you're going away from that original point.
My opinion - are incubi viable? Yes. Are they optimal? No.
