Dark Artisan vs. Mephiston...

Hello!

Today i tried the Dark Artisan -formation for the first time. Blood Angels came in with Sternguard and Coteaz in a pod and unleashed a volley poisoned 2+ shots...not a single wound...turn 2, the SG was decimated in CC and in his turn 2, Coteaz was too gone. I was happy. But...in came the Big Bad (and ridiculously OP ) Mephiston (rollin Endurance+Force)...one CC...whole formation gone...

Riddle me this...if he becomes Lord Of War, the BA player can take ANOTHER HQ or two, fe. Librarian AND use Mephiston...this is the model/unit, that i despise the most in the whole WH40K -universe...

So, i will definitely use the formation again, but avoid Force weapons (i thought i learned this with Wraihknights...).

Next time you face Mephiston, laugh chillingly as you unveil your allied Culexus Assassin.

It's not just mephiston you want to watch out for, or just force weapons. Belial carries a fleshbane power sword, which put paid to a pair of talos in my first game (I was not laughing. My opponent was!)

Mephiston is a slow expencive infantry model with 18" thread range that has a lot to fear in the game now. Tha Dark Artisan is one of the best targets he can get so I would allow him that.

I used hin in a tournament few weeks back and he didn't do much in any of my 3 games. in the 5th ed he was a beast!

In the 6th ed., when he had wings, he was more intimidating. But, in a Stormraven, he will be a threat in a much wider range...I have Insta-Gibbed him with D-weapons, but the Endurance blocked it today...

Funnily enough I don't have as much trouble with him. both games I've played against him with my Tyranids, and both times he wasn't much trouble. first time was in 6th, he had his wings, and flew around the board chasing my flyrant. second game was a few weeks ago, rolled for warpspeed, periled, rolled a 1, was in Shadow in the Warp range and got sucked into the warp!

he is very slow now, just move away from him. If he's near coven units, sacrifice a unit to the blender-lord to try and move away from him.

Just remember that when 'sacrificing' a unit to hold him up, the goal is to move in and around him enough to that he can't really use his movement phase and doesn't get to move much via charge - otherwise you're just serving as a movement boost via assault distance and consolidation.

The best solution for Meph, as it has ever been, is just to shoot him off the board or ignore him. He's a beast, but he goes down to massed fire and at the end of the day is a single model.
