| I just saw a battle report fielding the Dark Artisan Formation. I always just figured the Formation was one Haemy, one Talos, and one Cronos. But this one had upgraded with 2 extra Cronos, and 2 extra Talos. Reading up on it, I cannot decide what I think about this. Legal or not?
And following up on it, if legal..... is it woth it? I haven't run it myself yet, but it seems a bit on the overkill side?

| I'm voting that it is illegal, as the formation entry in the supplement says its 1 Talos 1 Cronos - not 1 unit....
Its only allowing 1 model.

| Everything counts as "a unit", though. And this one is even specified (at random) on page 48: Combined Units - Quote :
- "For example, if the combined unit from a Dark Artisan Formation, was completely destroyed, your opponent would count as having destroyed 3 units"
I just feel that if you were restriced to just one model of each, wouldn't it have been specified in "Restrictions"?

| I think it's illegal.
The case for it being legal is presented here.

In a perfect world, yes. But this is GW we are talking here. Anyway, would you want to go up against a unit of 3 Talos 3 Cronos and a Haemie, all no scatter deepstriking in your backfield....???

My gut feeling tells me it's wrong, so I'm not going to try it out I just like to get every rule right, and I think (if indeed "only one" is intended) GW dropped the ball on this one. And I wouldn't worry much about having it deep strike on my. I'm DE, after all. Just move away and fill it with poison Besides it's WAY too expensive to be truly effective, I think.

| The formation is made by 1 Talos, 1 Chronos and 1 Haemy. It doesn't say "1 unit of..." like the other formations | |

| Not sure why there would be any confusion over this at all. It literally tells you that the formation is made up of 1 Talos, 1 Chronos and 1 Haemy. There is no mention of "unit", so why would you be able to take 1 UNIT of Talos? | |

| Well.. For starters. the Cronos/Talos entries in the Codex has this bullet under options, on equal standing with weapons-related options: "-May include up to two additional Talos/Cronos".
And then there is the definition of "unit" I mentioned in my second post.
And then there is the word "None" in the Restrictions field, which the book specifies as being where any restrictions to unit size will be.

| I can see both sides of this argument. I'd really like an official ruling. | |

| Ahh, I see now. Hmm. You make a good argument, but I think it's designed to be 1 of each. I'd LOVE it to be more though ... | |

| I completely agree. I think the intention is one of each. But as mentioned, I just really can't see the rules-support for it. | |

| Valid point. I have always thought of it as one model of eaxh, a special unit composed of a mix of models rathr than the normal restriction of one to three of either cronos or talos.
The pictures doesnt help either since on the entry for the claw there is obly three taloi instead of five. Another weird detail in a nice supplement.

This topic was discussed ad nauseam in the thread linked above. Truly hope this discussion doesn't turn into kicking a dead horse/people shouting at each other

| I have already presented every argument I have, and I have no intentions of running it with several of each model anyway, so I'm quite okay with letting it pass by here I just hadn't seen the previous thread, so I felt it was worth mentioning... | |
