has anyone taken advantage of this trick towards the tail end of a game just for a SLIGHTLY better cover save?
Go to ground in the oppenents shooting phase the turn before you get fearless
Fearless If a unit has Gone to Ground and then gains the Fearless special rule, all the effects of Going to Ground are immediately cancelled.
Opponents shoot we jump on the ground/cover save. next turn become fearless and shoot back
Very situational but could be cheesy LOL's

Fearless come pretty late and in a "standard" army we don't have an awful lot of models that can go to ground anyways.

Still, worth thinking about in the right situation. By that time all my gunboat warriors are on foot trying for objectives anyway, and I've never thought of this before.

Yeah I've used it a couple of times - can be very handy. The issue for me is always remembering to do it on turn 4 cos come turn 5 you're not allowed to go to ground anyway!
