| Okay i was wondering if run a venom spam list. Which Transport and body guard for the Archon (with a blaster) would be best?
A unit of 4 Medusae an the Archon with a blaster, shadowfield and web way portal in a Venom with Splinter Cannon.
Or (don´t know if it´s possible or not) place the same Archon (with the same equipment) in a Raider with a Dark Lance and 9 true born with blasters?

| If you're going venom spam then you're not likely to need the anti-infantry firepower of the medusae, in my opinion.
you need to assess your list as a whole though to figure out what type of firepower you need. synergy-wise the raider with blasters matches up better with the blaster archon (though you don't need more than 5 trueborn in this unit - the other bodies are just expensive chaff that won't hurt your primary target (armour) and aren't threatening enough on their own to scare infantry. However, if your list is short of anti infantry then the medusae are a very good investment (if a little pricey).

| Medusae are the equivalent of Kabalite Warriors with flamers. That of course means that you would need your Archon with the anti-tank weapon to drive very close to enemy infantry and shoot at them to make the most of that unit's firepower. Definitely not ideal. But an independant court of 5 Medusae in a Venom could work nicely against infantry blobs.
Trueborn in a Raider (can still only have 4 blasters, btw) + Blaster Archon would be much more effective and versatile. That's 5 lance weapons (potentially a 6th on the Raider, which can also fire at a different target than the unit) against vehicles and up to 10 poison shots (potentially twin-linked, if the Raider has Splinter Racks) against infantry and monsters. Or, as TBE said above, you could as well ditch the five without Blasters to save some points. Keep in mind that this unit runs the risk of being a very obvious target in a Venom-heavy army though.

With the range of blasters, I wouldn't bother with the WWP, they'll rarely be out of range. I save the WWP for either medusae or heat lance scourges - they are, to my way of thinking, the only units that absolutely mustn't scatter when they arrive.

| I use a WWP Archon with 4x Medusae in a Venom and find it brilliantly effective. I don't give the Archon a Blaster though - usually just Shadow Field + Helm of Spite.
While tons of poisoned shots down a lot of infantry, I find my court is amazing at taking apart bikes, entrenched infantry, and MEQ in general. I also see a reasonable amount of buildings and open topped transports where they really outshine Splinter weapons. With that said, the Archon is not my Warlord (a Dark Artisan Haemonculus is) and that squad is annoying, moderately durable, and a serious problem to charge in order to prevent it from firing.
I'm a fan. | |
