| Hi guys, here again i'm trying to get some good ideas for a big 1750 points tournament on June, and i wanted to ask you what do you think about putting a fortress of redemption(reserve reroll option) inside a dark eldar list; i was thinking it could give a lot of cover and LoS to our units(i.e. put all behind it against eldar wave spam on first turn), what do you think about this idea?Someone did try it? Sorry for my bad english Mario | |

| Well, unless you're playing an unbound army or the normal combined arms detachment you can't play one (no fortifications for DE formation).
I would think that if you're doing so just for the re-roll option, it wouldn't be worth the points.
A cheaper option is to take the Real space raiders detachment (labarynthine cunning would give you the re-roll if you get it) and then take an allied Autarch to get the +1 to your reserve rolls

| If i don't play RSR i could place a FoR inside, as the rulebook says , i think. And i usually don't play detachment, i prefer OS^^ The autarch is not that cheaper, you should also buy a troop minimum, and at least is 140, without anything(no wave, no equip) | |

| I've played against a fortress a few times so have a fair bit of experience. I'm not going to comment on it's 'fluffiness' in terms of using a permanent fortification with Dark Eldar.
1. Yes, it's a great big lump of LOS blocking terrain so sticking most of your raiders/ravagers/venoms behind it during deployment will keep them safe from most things (unless they're Tau).
2. It's a big points investment. Huge quantities of points and against the wrong opponent doesn't necessarily provide you with the levels of protection you'd expect - the first time I played against it using my 6th ed space marine list my lascannon centurions destroyed the main tower, along with the guard command squad inside, on turn 1. As you said, the guard player had deployed everything out of sight behind it, so I took down the building instead, cutting out a big percentage of his investment and leaving me line of sight to the stuff behind it anyway.
3. It's static. Seems an obvious point but once you come out from behind it there's no hopping beck into cover afterwards like jet pack infantry would.
4. What's your normal LOS blocking terrain like? I can normally hide at least a couple of vehicles behind terrain, with other either partially hidden by ruins or screened by other vehicles, so I'd rather not spend that many point on something that's not hugely helpful.

| If you aren't going to actually use the building for infantry, which I assume you aren't, being DE, you could try taking Voidshields instead?
I've found Fortifications to be pretty useless to us though. We are a mobile army, no point in buying something that doesn't move just as The_Burning_Eye said.

I've played a few games with my Void Shield Generator now. It is AWESOME turn 1, and possibly turn 2. But after that, your opponent is so close that you have to move out of the way or be destroyed in melee (like is pretty normal for DE). The disadvantage from Turn 2+ is that I've paid 100 points for a free Void Shield Generator for my opponent to use, and now it's me trying to shoot through the shields.
