| Hello Dark brothers and sisters! I'm Joe from Southampton in the UK.
I collected DE since 3rd edition starter and they became my mainstay army. However I lost interest in 40k mid 4th edition (going to uni) and picked it back up recently with Tau. Then I re-did my marines and with the spares did a blood angels army. I'm in the process of stripping my tyranids from years back (but it's probably not worth painting them as they are useless!)
I sold most of my old Dark Eldar to fund moving to the UK (to be with my now wife :-) although I kept some minis (kruellagh and vect's incubi)
I was waiting to see if SoB were done in plastic but seeing as that isn't going to happen I'm strongly thinking of taking up the mantle of Dark Eldar again. I prefer armies that are challenging to play (my blood angels have no tanks - its all jumpers.. no infantry!... no heavy support!)
To start I was thinking 2xbattleforces 2xravagers and 2xvenoms. Can anyone recommend anything else of use? I already have an archon (I saved Kruellagh... perfect for huskblade+soultrap since she sucks out their souls!)
I really like Wyches - I will probably end up with a wych cult at some point. However for the interem I I was thinking of getting a box hellions to use for bitz and also as beastmasters - using some spare nid bitz and chaos hounds/spawn bitz as Khymare.
Kind regards

| welcome to the dark city. What do you want your army to be? very shooty melee heavy or a mix of both. The DE battleforce is one of the best battleforces GW has made in a long time. I bought one and use everything but the wyches as I prefer wracks for my melee unit. Hellions are fun but in my experience they never really do anything. If I was you I would grab a unit of scourge instead since they are one of the few ways to get haywire blasters and thats a dirty dirty weapon. Again just my opinion and im sure someone else will give you their 2 cents

| Welcome to the dungeon Joe! I hope that you like it here.
There is a ton of 'getting started' advice in the DE Discussion, Tactics and Army Lists threads here, and you can always do whatever you want.
What you list will definitely give you a good, solid start, and Hellions are an excellent source of bitz, so knock yourself out there. I'm also doing beastmasters with them.
The only slot you don't have anything in is Elites. You certainly don't have to follow the crowd, but if you want something to toss in the back of those Venoms, many people are creating Trueborn squads with multiple Blasters for extra, mobile AT power. They can be simply made using Warriors and whatever helmets you aren't using elsewhere. You can also make the Blasters by using the barrels from Blaster pistols, etc., that you get in other sets, if you aren't to use them in elsewhere.
That would give you a pretty solid core force.
Cheers. | |

| Welcome! Like you I was waiting to see what new stuff was coming out for the SoB before deciding which army to go for. Think GW dropped the ball on that one, so here we are! | |

| Yeah I was thinking of converting some Wracks out of a flaggelent set I have lying around as well as making some incubi with some bitz that I have. (I also have 5 of the old vect 'mafia' incubi!)
But yes at least 5 of them will be blasterborn.
My other idea is taht if I use the disintegators on the ravagers (but use them as dark lances) then use all the dark lance bitz to make blasters...

| Soton uni guys are really cool but mostly play fantasy. As my Wood Elves basically are pointless (apparantly!) and my Khorne army is i) not yet painted and ii) has no wizards it's a little pointless.
However some myself and some friends meet semi-regularlly for informal game-days and tourney setups. (finalcontingency.com) So there's a bit of a community. I don't have time to get to GW on a Thursday so I don't know what the setup is but they only have 4x4 tables (fine for my Blood angels... not so much for wood elves!)
