| I'm tempted to try out Mandrakes by infiltrating them forwards and then sending a Haemonculus their way to give them Baleblast, but how do pinning tests work exactly? Do you take one every time you suffer a wound from a pinning weapon, even if those wounds are all caused by the same squad in one turn of shooting? | |

| The BRB has the low down on this but basically if you take an unsaved wound from a unit with pinning weapons you take the test. Its only once per unit with the pinning weapon though (so a unit of eldar rangers might kill 3 kabalites but you only take 1 test). | |

| Ah, thanks - I'm still tempted, but might take a smaller squad in that case. Having a full squad of ten seems excessive seeing as ten strength 4 shots will probably cause at least one wound anyway! | |

| They are assault 2 are they not??? thats 20 shots, 14 hits, 7 wounds, 2 kils vs meq (or around that anyway)...
which then they take an LD 9 test for pinning... with around a 1 in 6 of failing... its not great...

| With MEQs maybe, but I'm not always going to be against them, and it's not something I'd hinge my whole plan on anyway really, just something to shake an opponent up on the first turn. After I sent the Haemonculus away they could carry on hiding in cover and just annoying a unit and keeping them busy, or assault something with them. It strikes me that it's the potentially immediate proximity of Mandrakes that's the scariest thing about them, as opposed to what they actually do. | |

| Pinning from one source have pretty low chance to happen.
I run Craftworld Eldar list with Rangers (pinning rifles) , Harlies with Jesters (pinning shuricannon) , Eldrad (Pinning Storm) , Wraithlords (EML pinning). And still those pinning fails are rare. But with all army pinning thats somewhat reliable.
Still there are too many units which dont care about pinning , cause are Fearless.
So unless you find way to make pinning spice of entire roster better just dont pay any mind to it.
There is possible with DE actually. We have poisoned, pinning missiles. Their point is - poison dont hurt vechicles. So we can safely tankshock , clump em up and unleash poison death. We can even have upgrade on tankshocking raiders to lower LD. And We have Grav Talons Reavers. So there is a way to assemble pinning spiced army.
