| The Darkened Light Project Log -Here I will be posting updates on all my models for my new army. I've gone for a Blue/Tan dirty, rustic paint scheme. I'll start with pictures of my customized Ravager (Built with a Razorwing) Plain old top-bottom view A different top-bottom view so that you can see the wing A bottom view of the tip Where the wing was removed and roughly welded together A blurry picture but shows one of the many cracks/bullet wounds i made. So, I know I know, for you rules lawyers out there saying it's not open-topped. That was the purpose of the bullet holes and cracks. The top is weaker then the sides and front which are already fairly weak. And for you fluff lawyers out there. My dark eldar don't follow normal fluff. They're a poor kabal but I won't go into that here. Basically the Ravager is a salvaged Razorwing that was already missing a wing and the other was badly cracked, so they removed that one as well and put extra focus on the engines, making it slower but still capable of flight. Since it is slower they equipped it with Disintegrator Cannons, of which it is able to use like a Ravager would. Anyways -deep breath- how is it everybody? It's my first time painting in 3(or 4) months. All constructive criticism is supported. Just don't say, "That sucks" or "Stop painting" please. I dislike it when I receive negativity that isn't constructive.

| I really like the fluff concept behind this model, and I think you have translated that vision very well. Personally I would have been tempted to use the "cut down" windshield rather than the full canopy to help reinforce the open topped element but it is cool as is just a thought for if you do another. As for the paint I think the method you've used captures the salvaged look perfectly, so kudos there. In your fluff is a razorwing metallic or ceramic/composite? If its metallic maybe some paint chipping and rust patches would add to the straight outta the junk yard look? | |

| Partially Ceramic and partially metallic. (Main body is Ceramic. Engines and weapons are metallic) Thank you for the positive reply
And for those of you who don't know, I have really shaky hands so making straight lines or staying straight on things is really hard for me.

| Looks pretty cool. I'll second the half canopy to reinforce the open-topped (but then you've got to paint the pilot and cockpit, which is why none of my venoms have the half canopy haha). Paint wise I think you've got a good base scheme going for you, definitely looks salvaged. Is it brown or Bronze? I can't quite tell from the picture. I think it'd benefit from another color to give it a more finished look, either some rust spots/paint chips like punk possum suggested or maybe a little Nihilahk Oxide in some of the recesses to make it look...well... oxidized. | |

| You *COULD* take the hanging kabalites from raider kit/wyches from the venom kit and place them over the top of your salvaged razorwing. That might make it look like the Ork style of "open topped".
Edit: Oh, it's a ravager. Disregard that idea, unless you want to have kabalites hanging off as weapons engineers tending to the weapons
edit edit: Further idea - get a ravager side turret and mount it to the top of the razorwing in some way (theory behind it: the razorwing only has 2 heavy weapon mounts and the nose is a splinter weapon mount, potentially destroyed beyond repair. They got the anti grav engines working and decided to add to the fire output with a welder) Alternatively, convert a seated/tied down kabalite warrior holding a dark lance/disintegrator on the top or nose

| That alternate one sounds like a really good idea. I may use that. | |

| I really like the weathered bronze tone you've made! It looks battered and old, as if it has seen a few flights. It fits with the concept of not able to afford the newest, shiniest craft. I admit that when I'm painting, unless it's Rangers I usually go for brand new and shiny and it's much more realistic to look a bit less pristine | |

I dislike painting anything shiny or new. I love it when I see other armies like that but I always think of my armies fighting. I mean, the game takes place in a battle so why would everything be spotless? I also am not the best at painting shiny stuff but well, I've also never really tried because I have no need to.

My theory is that everything is shiny and new at the start of the battle (except for my covens stuff and mandrake weapons, as they aren't actually part of a kabal or a wych cult, where all the money is)

| It's just how I have painted my army. Plus with such easy access to the webway, it would be easy to duck back in for repairs before the next raid | |

| I'm currently testing the theme on a trueborn that I converted via a kitbash of warriors with dark elf corsairs. | |

| Apologies for the poor quality on the pictures. I'll get some more done tomorrow/later today. But yeah, here's what the trueborn should all look like/similar to. Maybe add more detail? Remember, advice is nice (I just invented a quote. Thank me ) And, I may try to make a Mother Malys model some time. (For those that don't know I've declared Malys as my mum and Cavash as my dad) | |

| *ahem* Mother Malys?
Look, just because I am technically old enough ... *grumble* Go and finish your chores and tidy your room!
The Corsair cloaks blend in really well, actually, they give the Trueborn the kind of fancy flair that suits their arrogant nature. Plus, cloaks are fun in general. The Corsair ones have the right kind of look, too, as if they are made from something alien. And expensive.
Nicely done!

| Wow that Drahzar is freaky looking! It looks really good Lord Alino. Really emphasizes the bio-horror elements of his design. Really cool... btw something I do make taking pictures easier is to put the model in front of a backdrop. I use an old Wave Serpent box with a black piece of construction paper taped on to it and just use ambient light from the room. Hopefully that helps! | |
