Anyone got any ideas in terms of converting Kabalites into Jet-pack Corsairs, without using the FW kit?

Alternatively, anyone know any models that could be used as Jet-pack Corsairs?

Well... they look pretty old school (which I like) but the rogue trader guardians with lasguns fit the bill.  They even have pistol holsters.

This guy here.

Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 204006_md-Old%20Eldar%20Guardian

I have about 40 now, because I picked some up on ebay after I saw some of the leaks. Not sure If I should run them as Void hardened armor in venoms or large squads, or try to convert some jet packs on them.

They're painfully static and will look even more so en masse, but I plan on mixing in multi-part guardians.

If we're talking converting Kabalites, you can probably get away with just making them much less spiky. Remoive the spikes, bland the kabalites up a bit, and they'd make decent enough Corsairs.

Sorry, I was actually thinking of Jet-pack Corsairs.

Being the supreme genius that I am, I apparently forgot that there were other types. Embarassed

Aaaahhh.

So what you're after is some kind of Kabalite with a Jet Pack.
In which case, Scourges with more standard Kabalite arms and heads, maybe with some weird rocket things instead of Wings?
Or just use Kabalite bodies, but only use the rear torso of the Sybarite from the set where theres a slot for the flag thing. That slot could easily accomodate some funky jet-packy type thing.

Basically, yeah.

I could maybe convert some scourges, but I was looking for other possibilities - mainly in terms of what to use for the jetpack.

I must have missed that the first time.  Embarassed

My old dudes have interesting warp spider-ish backpack bulges I might try and convert.  I'll let you now if that works out.

If all the rumors work out to be accurate, we'll need a heavy support unit in each coterie (up to 4).  I was thinking about using these guys as naked balestrike bands(50 points) to achieve that in smaller games.  Lasblasters actually sort of rock though so they may be useful in general.

I am thinking converting mine by using this article From the warp: Corsair conversion for the 'wings' and for the back part use the heavy weapon backpack so i could magnetize it also.
I will be trying it by the weekend, so I could post the result (if it's good) Very Happy

I have been toying with the idea of using the old scourges backpacks as corsair jetpacks since they are dirt cheap on ebay.
I am going to clip them in half and glue them on at an angle. I'll be using guardians as the base model, with DE stuff sprinkled in. I already have one of the forge world jet pack kits, so I will make two different squads with distinct styles. Maybe I'll be really unoriginal and use all female guardian torsos with the scourge packs, give them wych heads and call them The Erinyes. Razz

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I had an idea just now, but I'm not sure if it's a bit silly. Basically, I was wondering about using Hellion  skyboards as jet backs.

Spoiler:

The last one was an attempt at a size-comparison with my Corsair Prince, sorry for the poor lighting.

Anyway, I know these are very rushed, but do you think there might be some merit in this idea?

If so, any thoughts for improvements? Should I maybe trim the guns on the finished models? Or try and add something?

Nice. Finally a use for the hellion kit!
I would probably try to mod the boards a little bit to make them less bulky. But that is just my personal taste. They look pretty darn cool unmodded as well.

Not sure what the final rules will be but the "splinter pods" could probably pass for the brace of pistols.  They have the barrels of splinter pistols after all, with a longer weapon chamber - it makes sense to me.

It would also mean they would basically have to be head down charging forward to fire them.  Which also makes sense.

I was working on a way to magnetize hellions so they'd go on traditional ball bases or low to the ground "hover board" bases.  If I get back to my workbench today I'll throw some pics up.

Thanks, guys.

I'll mess around with this idea some more when I have the rules, and have a better idea of the different units I want to use (and how many models I need). I'm thinking that I might use different shaped skyboards to represent different units (e.g. ones with wings curled upwards will be troop corsairs, whilst ones with wings curving downwards will be HS corsairs, or something like that).

I also need to decide what models I want to convert. I think the skyboard looked better as a jetpack on the warrior than the wych... but I have a lot more spare wyches than warriors. Rolling Eyes

Any idea how/where you'd mod it, if you see what I mean?

Ok nothing ground breaking.  All I did was drill up into the cavity on my hellions, insert magnets (with the right pole down of course) and then glue a ball magnet onto a 25 mm base and cover it (most of the way) with basing material.

go-go image spam.

Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 20151110

Just make sure your poles are lined up properly and you don't obstruct the channel the ball goes in.

Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 20151111

Proof that it still fits on the original base!

Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 20151112

About those old school scourge wings - Don't clip them, they're pewter and they bend about 20 degrees each.  I might use them on my lasblaster/pistol guardians to bulk out reaver bands (as they're mocked up here with blue stuff) or use as balestrike bands (not sure if they have pistols though).  If you can stand the sculpt, the old school scourges would make for decent balestrike bands un-modified as they all have heavy weapons.

Wouldn't it be an idea to use the new sky boards as corsair wings?

Probably.  I'm not sure if you saw shredder's pictures, as they were embedded in a spoiler, but that's what he was deciding about.

The beauty with the corsairs is that there are so many ways to field units and even more ways to theme them.  I will probably use these hoverboard style hellions as malevolents in a dark eldar themed coterie.

Magnetizing the bases will also mean I can use them as I had before (as beast masters or hellions by swapping arms).  Now I just need to find lots of dark eldar(ish) right arms with either empty hands or melee weapons.

You've done a great job with those hellions. Smile

One question though - do you not have any problems measuring to/from their bases? I ask because they seem to overlap the small bases quite a bit.

This was really just an experiment that grew from an idea to transport them with magnets.  I haven't actually fielded them this way, or even decided on what arms to add to them.  As it stands I'm probably going to use them as traditional flying bases by using small lengths of metal (probably finishing nails) to extend them up into the air.

Line of sight wise there is a rule where wings (tails, weapons, and antennae) are ignored on a model, but I think for the purposes of blast or template weapons I'd just count any part of the model being covered like they were on flying bases anyway if I used them like that.

This would be a distinct advantage on your models as you would be able to ignore the wings on the jet-pack for LOS purposes, and don't have the overlap issue I'd have to concede to my opponent.

Now that I'm getting a better grasp on the corsairs book, I realize I'm probably not going to need as many jet packs as I thought anyway.  In fact, I'm going to start disassembling the models with them I have later on this evening.

Btw am I the only one who breaks flying bases all the darn time? It could just be the age of most of my models but I do not trust them to hold up to anything.

Good point.

I've only broken 1 or 2, actually. For me, the bigger problem is getting stuff to stay on the damn things, as they tend to become too loose. I've had to apply varnish to the top of most of them to make them fit more tightly. tongue

Hard to say without having the actual models in front of me. But from the pictures it looks like the pod part of the board is detachable. So Maybe take that part off and flip the board around. If this makes the board wrap around the warrior too much I would have to start cutting. When I start kitbashing things tend to get complicated.

Ah, I see. Unfortunately, I think the detachable part might also include the actual engine. Razz

Still, I have some unassembled skyboards, so I'll mess around with them and see if there's anything I can easily cut.

So I'm liking these guys so far but I'm curious if they're too weird.
Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 20151210
If you can't tell, they'd be exodite malovelents with jet-packs.  My thinking is that basically any exodites forced to join a corsair fleet would slowly lose themselves the longer they were away from their homeworld, until they're basically soul-less madmen.  Also... they'd grow lumpy horned hunchbacks for some reason?   scratch
Corsair Conversions or Alternate Models? 20151213
I originally thought I'd flesh the horns out in to giant leaves or insect wings with green stuff, but I kind of like them as just horns.  What are those tiny wings on the corsair jet-packs supposed to be doing anyway?  These guys' torsos and hunchbacks are covered in leaves if you can't tell from the pictures, so I still might go that route just to tie it together when I do my gap-filling.

And ya that's a drilled out star cannon bit if you're curious.  The jets are huge compared to the actual version, but then again it makes it more obvious what they are, and makes the wings even less necessary.

Any thoughts or suggestions?  I can make 6-7 more of these guys, just not sure people would get what I'm going for.  Also bare-chested dudes with 4+ armor, I'm not sure.

Thanks for posting those. In the second pic, is that flame coming out of the back of the model?

The antlers certainly make them unusual. One thing you could do would be to drill through some heads/limbs of other models, and mount them on the antlers - giving the impression of living trophy racks. Twisted Evil

Ironically though, I'd actually say that they're not weird enough. I think I'd want them to be a little more monstrous. Maybe with more beastial arms/heads (hmm, Corsair Werewolves  Wink ). However, this is just personal preference and certainly not a objective criticism. More likely I'm the one being weird. Razz

Regardless, I'd love to see what they look like when they've been painted. Smile

Ya that's something I use as flame bits, coming out of the furthest jet.  Guess I should have taken the pic from that side instead.

I think it's actually some sort of dragon skin?  I don't remember but I have a bunch of them that I've used on flamers.

These were going to be exodite style wracks at one point, before I decided I probably wouldn't ever need any more.  Many of their "backpacks" already have skulls and rib-cages tangled into them.  Those ones are definitively branches though and not horns.

As for painting them... I'm so very far behind on that it's not even funny.  If I get rid of some of my unpainted armies (and I plan to since I just bought a 3000 points slaneesh juan diaz metal army bounce ), I might get around to these guys.
