Skyfire and Blast Empty
PostSubject: Skyfire and Blast   Skyfire and Blast I_icon_minitimeTue Jan 05 2016, 13:10

An interesting question cropped up on another forum that intrigued me, so thought I would repeat it here and see what you guys think.

Under the rules fgor Flyers:
HARD TO HIT
Zooming Flyers are incredibly difficult targets for troops without suitably calibrated weapons and scopes. SHots resolved at a Zooming Flyer can only be resolved as Snap Shots (unless the model or weapon has the Skyfire special rule). Template and BLast weapons, and any other attacks that don't roll To Hit, cannot hit Zooming Flyers."

HOWEVER, under the rules for Flying Monstrous Creatures:
HARD TO HIT
"A Swooping Flying Monstrous Creature is a very difficult target for units without specialised weapons. Shots resolved at such a target can only be resolved as Snap Shots unless the model or weapon has the Skyfire special rule."

Notice something? The rules for Flying Monstrous Creatures do NOT have the provision for Blast and Template weapons that the rules for Flyers do. So it seems to read that if a Template or Blast weapon is being used by a model with Skyfire (which for us mean a Flyer or Skyfire Nexus), it CAN target a Flying Monstrous Creature.
We apparently can't Flyers with our missiles, but CAN target Flying Monstrous Creatures?!

Discuss.

This is correct. The Hard to Hit rule is different for flyers and FMCs. Doesn't come up much, but good to remember.

It's been that way since the start of 7th but with GW not doing FAQ's anymore it's likely to remain that way until the next edition at least.
