Cronos Wargear Questions Empty
PostSubject: Cronos Wargear Questions   Cronos Wargear Questions I_icon_minitimeMon Feb 01 2016, 18:42

Had 2 questions regarding the equipping and use of the Cronos's upgrades.

#1. The data sheet entry states that:

"Any model may take one of the following:
* Spirit Probe
* Spirit Vortex

Does that mean that they can select one of EITHER of these options, or can select one of EACH option? In other words, can I have a Cronos equipped with both a Spirit Probe AND a Spirit Vortex?

#2 The entry for the Spirit Probe states:

...all friendly units with the Dark Eldar faction and the Feel No Pain special rule get a +1 bonus to their Feel no Pain.

Most DE units acquire the Feel no Pain rule via Power from Pain starting on Turn 2. For those models, does this mean that on Turn 1, a Cronos could give these models with PFP a +6 FNP save or would it only start to apply its effect once the unit acquired the rule on Turn 2 (assuming no Haemonculus or equivalent turn boosting).

Thanks in advance for the assist!

UM

1.) Each of your Cronos may choose one of them. Either a Probe or Vortex. Not both.
2.) I would say that they would not get it until they get FNP (Which from PFP would be Turn 2 w/o the Haemi.)

Thanks Wulfvin. As I feared unfortunately.

This pretty much kills off the Cronos for me in anything but a Dark Artisan build. If anything the Cronos should come with the Spirit Probe and the Spirit Vortex should be an upgrade to the Spirit Syphon it comes with stock. A S3 flamer template on a 6" move model doesn't justify its cost, and upgrading it to anything remotely useful (key being remotely) eliminates the ability to take the FNP buff. Such a wasted opportunity on a cool concept...

To make the Cronos useful, you have to keep your troops close, which means slowing things down considerably as far as your movement, which might not be such a great idea.

Although, if you only have the Siphon as a weapon and no opponents near by, running will help this a little.

If you want to use the Vortex, while still retaining the usefulness of the Probe, You could do a 2 Cronos Squad (or 2 seperate squads), one with each and go from there. But the Talos and Cronos will always suffer with a 6" move and lag behind unless you make conscious decisions in how to position and move your units.

I don't know that I've played a game recently without my Dark Artisan Formation. Whether it was successful or not is another story. Good distraction either way lol.
