| Greetings All
After having witnessed a (not Games Workshop) tabletop game back when I was in the 9th grade the seed was planted. I knew I wanted to play some sort of tabletop war game but I didn't know which one. A few years after graduating high school I found myself on the Games Workshop website – I immediately chose Dark Eldar, there was no question about it. I love elves, so that narrowed it down to 2, and why would i choose some hippies to go to war with? Dark Eldar it was. It wasn't until another several years had passed when my boyfriend casually mentioned Warhammer 40k to me to gauge my interest. He was shocked when not only was I on board but had already picked out my army. We decided when I graduated college and we had money again, we would play. Well almost 2 years ago we finally did it! I got my glorious Dark Eldar while he choose some scum of the Imperial race of man. While my army has grown quite substantially since that first Battle Force (~3200 points) I still don't consider myself a very experienced player. The last few years was plagued with real-life-stuff which put the hobby on hold, causing me to relearn basic rules time and time again. Now things have settled and I’ve dived back in head first. To celebrate my return, I’m finally posting on TheDarkCity.net – I’ve been lurking in the shadows for far too long (even longer than I’ve had the models for).
I currently hold an awesome win streak of 0 against my boyfriend's Dark Angels, to his delight. I've never felt like I knew the rules enough to play against someone I don't know. But his younger brother comes over every summer so we bought him an Orc army – I’ve won against him! I hope to start playing against other people this summer, finally. There a few local events here in Vancouver BC that I'd like to join in on too.
My goals are 1) to have my army completed by the end of August and 2) reach 50 posts. When we first started this we said we wouldn't be those people who take years to finish their army... but here I am almost 2 years in still with half painted models and 50% without arms. I don't think I could live with myself if it took me more than 2 years to complete. Additionally I really love the Harlequins, I wanted to fill my Dark Eldar army with them but a few months after I started 7E came out and they became their own army. I've been trying to finish my Dark Eldar so I could start Harlequins this whole time! Reason for 50 posts: I’ve wanted to participate in the Secret Santa Space Raid for years, only to realize the requirements last year too late! I think its really cool that despite us not getting very much love from Games Workshop we still have this community. Why haven't forums like this popped up for the other armies? Because we're obviously more awesome, that's why!
I look forward to scheming with you all, and may your slave pits never empty,

| You've been lurking in the shadows? So you're a mandrake?
Anyway: every species is welcome in Commorragh... As long as you can survive!

Mandrake? *scoffs* I'd say using cover to my advantage.

| Welcome!
Good luck, i recently to started with 40k (but having played Warhammer: Fantasy for long) so i hope you don't get overwhelmed with having the odds against you as i noticed Dark Eldar very much have since they are advanced to play effectively and are "underpowered" compared to most armies. They are to wicked looking not to play though and are very rewarding when you do start to win.

See, what you have to understand is that no one ever "finishes" their army. It's always still a work in progress, by design. Trying to "finish" your 40k army in an ever-shifting environment like GW creates is an act of futility. It's like trying to "win" a tabletop RPG like D&D: That's simply not how it's designed. P.S. I'm being facetious, mostly. But every good joke has a touch of the truth. Haha.

Thanks! (And thanks to everyone else for the greetings!) I've definitely had my moments when i wanted to give up. But i love the models and fluff too much not to. Its come close so many times and i can always point to 1 game changing moment when i could have won but the moment went horribly and i couldn't recover . We tied once! So there's that. Soon enough, soon enough. - BetrayTheWorld wrote:

I can't count how many times i told myself "this is all i need..." only to have something else in my cart in no time at all. What i really meant is finish the core of my army. You know, enough that the bulk of your force is complete, your main models that are on every list you make. I'm no where close to that yet. I'll get the project log up hopefully this weekend.
