My list:
Mandrakes X7
Reavers X6 2 Blasters
Mission
#1 Forward Push
My first game was against 7 Triarch Praetorians of the Necrons. Normal deployment, three main objectives. My 24inch splinter shots proved more reliable than the Mandrake baleblast in this game due to their high toughness. My main mistake was rushing my two blasters into range early on. Both failed their shots, and were subsequently destroyed due to the Praetorians 12 inch move, and AP2 weapons. Won’t be doing that again…. Overall it was simply about avoiding cc for as long as possible. We flipped an extra turn at the end of the game and I was tabled. Had I played my blasters a bit better, it could have been a whole different game.
Me: 2VP L
Opponent: 3 VP W (1 model left!)
Mission
#2 Alone in the Dark
Game
#2 was against an Orc truck, and a bunch of Boyz and Nobz. After blowing up the truck turn two, along with several boyz my opponent went into hiding. I wasn’t able to shoot down enough models to make him break, and I foolishly forgot to move one Reaver in the assault phase the two inches needed for linebreaker. I preformed much better in this round, and only lost one model.
Me: 2 VP D (because I screwed up line breaker)
Opponent: 2 VP D
Mission
#3 Head Hunt
Game
#3 was against another Orc player fielding all Boyz and Nobz, with two heavy weapons, one flamer, and one rocket launcher. Set-up was on my side this game. The orcs spent the majority of the game walking across the field while my Reavers slowly mowed down what got within firing range, and once the Mandrakes were within their 18 inch shooting distance, it was a slaughter. I believe I lost two models this round.
Me: 7 VP W
Opponent: 3 VP L
Mission
#4 Supply Drop
Game
#4 was against a Blood Angles list mixed with jump infantry and a normal squad with a heavy flamer. I set up first, and split my army in half. Bikes on one side, Mandrakes on the other. He followed suit, so turn one I moved everything into position with the jump infantry. His foot soldiers just couldn’t cover the distance, and I was able to fight 100% of my force against 50% of his. The MVP of the game was a blaster wielding Reaver who took out 4 space marines all by himself. End of turn five saw my opponent with one model on the table.
Me:7 VP W
Opponent: 1 VP L
Kill teams are truly a whole different game. The Mandrakes with their 2+ cover save and assault two weapons made them truly difficult to remove and ignore. On top of that, the +1 S late game due to furious charge had me at S5! The Reavers where probably the most annoying because of their move, shoot, move ability which really shines on a 1-1 model game. I ended the tournament in 2nd place, the Necron list I played Game
#1 ended 4-0 and took first.
