Hey guys, need some help drafting a story.

MWG did a warzone apothis campaign. Look it up on youtube if you don't know what I'm referring to.

I need help drafting a similar story on a smaller scale. I so far have a nurgle/chaos player, a nid players, myself (D.eldar) and 3 imperiums -_-

Any idea how i can work in all these factions, and hopefully let the imperiums all get a decent amount of games in?

Have he story set in a star system with three planets, the nids are there to kill all. Taking advantage of the chaos the nids are doing gives the nurgle forces time to enact a cruel ritual. The dark eldar sense weakness and attacks to gain new volenteers for the slave pits and arena.

Each of the imperial forces are part of the same army sent to defend and aid the pdf, though over time parts of their forces fall foul to chaos (means the imperials fight imperials and stays within story)

Or something along that line

Will there be Imperium vs Imperium? That might be tricky, but how's this for an idea?

On an Imperial held world at the fringes of the Imperium a powerful pre-fall Eldar psychic artifact is discovered and accidentally activated.

If used properly, the function of this artifact is not just to open doors into the webway, but to fully create new tunnels in the webway that are large enough for full-blown strike cruisers to navigate.

Dark Eldar
The Dark Eldar have learned of this discovery, and cannot let such power fall into the hands of their enemies. If Chaos or the Imperium learn how to use this artifact to its full extent the Dark Eldar's single place of refuge from She-Who-Thirsts would be destroyed.

Whatsmore, the power this artefact would provide to a Cabal, Coven or Cult could instantly lift them to the upper echelons of Commoragh society...

Chaos
Meanwhile, Ahriman of the Thousand Sons has also heard of this discovery. In a bid to gain access to the Black Library he has sought out forces to retrieve this artifact. In his typical Tzeenchian way, he will not use his own to further his agenda. With promises of an entire realm untouched by disease or decay within their grasp within the webway, a powerful Nurgle Champion has answered his calls. As the war escalates, doubtless more warbands will flock to his cause.

Imperium
A note is passed to a member of the administratum. The heading reads 'Minor Disturbance on Fringe World'. Adjusting his optical implants, he skim-reads the report. 'Arcane device', 'forces of the enemy', 'ten million lives'. In the fug of incense that permeates the room, he stamps the requisition order for reinforcement and places it in the vac tube to send away for actioning.

Lightyears away, orders are scrawled by astropaths of the Imperial fleet and millions of troops are mobilised. Their orders: purge the heretic and the xeno. Destroy the device for the good of mankind at all costs.

However, even the forces of the Imperium are not united. The planetary PDF is both strong and fiercely independent being based so far from the core Imperial worlds. Through garbled orders from distant powers and sheer stubbornness they have so far resisted relinquishing control of the planet to the arriving Imperial reinforcements. Plenty of their members have experienced the readiness with which the Imperium orders exterminatus and will stop short at nothing to prevent that happening to their homeworld. Even open warfare against the Imperium itself.

Furthermore, a radical Inquisitor from the Ordo Xenos has requisitioned yet more Imperial forces in a bid to capture the device. The power it would give the Imperium over the fickle Eldar is considerable, and he is hell-bent on using the artifact. Not even orders from the High Lords of Terra is enough to sway him from his goal. Anything standing in his way will be subject to his wrath, allied or otherwise.

Tyranids
However, the activation of this artifact has had a consequence unknown to the other factions. The psychic thrumming of its powerful engines has pierced the empyrean and is bathing the planet in a steadily growing beacon of psychic energy. Unbeknownst to the other factions, this beacon is drawing Tyranids from lightyears around inexorably towards the planet like moths to a flame. As the power within the arcane device continues to grow, they will be drawn in in ever increasing numbers.

Those are both great ideas!

Ynneadwraith, love the artifact idea! I think I will use that one, along with a lot of the prequel story.

Since the post I've had a slanesh player join, and a Necron player.

So now it seems like we might do 3 factions:

Imperium

Chaos and necron allies of convenience

Dark eldar and tyranids (My kabal will stay out of their way out of pure logic, trying to use them as a distraction while I go for the artefact.)

So here are my next two questions:

How should I incorporate crons?

Any idea how to slow the process of the device, like maybe it needs to be dug out still, or needs separate parts on multiple planets to activate? That was we can extend the campaign passed "I grab it and use it"

So would it be doubles/teams? I'll have a think about how to sort the fluff around the matchups (40k being 40k, it's easier to sort out why people would fight rather than work together).

I love the idea about the device being the size of a star system, with parts of it on different planets in the system. Makes it seem all the more powerful Smile

To make it last longer you could either have to have a faction control every part of the device to set it off (probably won't work too well), or each faction has to capture a 'key' to the device, and then race towards the heart of the device to activate it.

As the final part of that campaign you could have a massive 3/9-way battle to take the key to the a central location in the map.

Each key that a faction has is carried by a character in their army, which they have to bring to the central objective where they have to attempt to activate it (perhaps on three rolls of 4+, one per turn or something like that).

It'd probably be an utter mess, but it would be fun Smile

You could make the outcome of the campaign beforehand count for something by having multiple keys up for grabs, and factions can steal keys off other factions by assassinating their characters and taking a token that's dropped by them Smile

If you look up warzone thundrous on FB it's our campaign. Sorry for late response. We are using factions like mwg did. Thanks for all the help guys!
