PostSubject: 1500 CAD new to Deldar   1500 CAD new to Deldar I_icon_minitimeMon Jan 30 2017, 07:21

Hi guys.

Our local gaming group was getting sick of seeing/doing Imperial vs Imperial battles all the time so I've decided to give a new army a go and decided to go for Deldar for a fun challenge

The forces I've chosen I've chosen because I love the models so not really looking to drop anything I just want to know if you'd take anything in a different configuration as I'm totally new to the Dark Eldar.

cheers.

HQ

Archon, Huskblade, Shadowfield, the animus vitae. 145 (goes with the incubi)

Troops

10 man kabalite warrior squad, Sybarite, Spinter cannon 105

Raider, Dark lance, Splinter racks, Night shields 90

You're running kind of heavy on the upgrades.

Troops
Would run with Blasters instead of Splinter Cannons or Sybarites
Elites
Would run Incubi in smaller unit (4) with a Venom
Fast Attack
More, smaller units of Reavers with minimal upgrades (read, just caltrops and maybe heat lance)
Run Scourges with Haywires, no other upgrades. Probably bring more Scourges in multiple units.

Heavy Support
Drop upgrades

I still think you're spending too much on upgrades, specifically on the Archon and the Kabalites. You can throw a lot of points to try make them tougher but at the end of the day, they are still T3 models in 10/10/10 open top vehicles.

Typically, some of our most common and efficient Kabalite Warrior load outs are:

- 5 in a Disintegrator Raider or double Splinter Cannon Venom with no other upgrades. These are economic, mobile and focus on anti infantry shooting and scoring points.

- 5 in a Dark Lance Raider with a Blaster in the unit, if you have left over points, you could add a Syrabite with Haywire Grenades. They're still reasonably cheap and mobile with a touch of anti vehicle.

If you really want 10 man squads to work, keep them as focused and as affordable as you can:

- 10 in a Splinter Racks Raider with 1 Syrabite. If you find yourself with tonnes of spare points you can buy Night Shields. Don't buy Blasters or Dark Lances as they'll be wasted efficiency when the unit fires on infantry or when the vehicle jinks (it will jink almost every turn; this is a lot of points and will be targeted heavily).

I recommend trying a mix of both - bring in 2 Splinter Rack Raiders with big units of Kabalites, and 2 Double Splinter Cannon Venoms holding smaller units of Kabalites. Your third Raider can be used for the Incubi. The extra Hull Point can make a difference, and since Raiders can hold more models, you can keep the Archon with 5 Incubi there if you wanted too.

Archons are not what they used to be. In combat, they usually aren't terribly impressive, but if you want to build a close combat one, Agoniser+Shadowfield+Haywire Grenades is a decent way to go. At least it's somewhat flexible in what it can fight. The Huskblade Archon is only S3, so he's struggling even to hurt Space Marines and cannot even touch most tanks or monstrous creatures, which is a big deal because the Incubi he's probably hanging out with HATE monstrous creatures and walkers.

Honestly though, a Succubus is a better choice than all Archon options.

As far as the list structure goes, especially seeing how you're quite Kabalite-heavy, I think it's better to grab 2 CADs rather than Realspace Raiders if you want more Fast Attack slots. Having Objective Secured tends to outweigh the benefits of Realspace Raiders. As a 'special' detachment, it offers nothing compared to the special detachments available for Imperial armies.

i agree i would cut the splinter racks, and the dark lances, the heat lances. also i would rather have haywire granades over blasters. i would cut an incubi so the arcon can be on a ride with the incubi. a ravenger or more bikes or venoms w/ splinter cannons is where i would spend my points

Ok lets give this another try, Thanks for all the feed back so far I really appreciate it. I'm coming from 13 years of playing Grey Knights so I'm used to things costing more than the sun and it's a hard habit to break lol.

Latest attempt with suggestions:

CAD 1

HQ

Succubus, Archite glaive, Armour of misery, haywire grenades 115 (goes with Incubi)

Troops

5 man kabalite warrior squad 40

Venom, dual Splinter cannon 65

5 man kabalite warrior squad 40

Venom, dual Splinter cannon 65

Elites

4 Incubi, Klaivex 90

Venom, dual Splinter cannon 65

Fast attack

3 Reavers, cluster caltrops 63

5 man Scourge, 4 haywire blasters 120

Heavy support

Voidraven bomber 160

CAD 2

HQ

Archon 60 (could just take a Lhamaean as a cheap HQ for this one but that just feels dirty to me for some reason)

Troops

10 man kabalite warrior squad 80

Raider 55

10 man kabalite warrior squad 80

Raider 55

Fast attack

3 Reavers, cluster caltrops 63

5 man Scourge, 4 haywire blasters 120

Heavy Support

Ravager, 3x dark lance 125

1461 leaving 39 points.

Is that any Better?

looks much better except for the archon. and another thing you need to realise about dark eldar we have weapons that kill vehicles and weapons that kill creatures. unlike other armies they can shot at both. are poison rocks and sticks wont do much to a vehicle. for this reason the haywire grade upgrade / dark lances are very important.
personally i recommend upgrading all the guys you can just for the haywire granades. like k warriors to sybarite. that 15 points creates options and give you outs for yourself. i would cute the archon for a lhamean and a venom with dual splinter cannons. i also wouldn't nessisarly fill the raider. when it goes down more troops will die. other than that it looks good
