We still have plenty of Dark lances on other things, if you need more DL's get a Ravager. It's still the difference between a dead marine and not, D3 damage or not, and the difference between putting damage on something than not. That's why I find it mind-boggling. To not take heavy weaponry in large quantities is literally giving up some of the racial bonuses for playing DE in the first place.

| People have a tendency to look at a unit and want it to be able to kill something outright by itself. That's not how DE work. Sure Dark Lances do double the damage of blasters, but that's not the point, they serve different roles. Lances are used to crack open vehicles, blasters are used to finish off those that have <6 wounds left. Blasterborn will put out a much more controllable level of damage than Lances will. With Lances you're gambling on getting those big hits from time to time, with blasters you're banking on doing around 4 wounds. You lance stuff until it's nearly dead and you finish it off with blasters so you don't overkill with a weapon that could roll 6 vs a 3 wound tank. That 6 is better placed on a fresh tank instead. If you're routinely over spilling wounds from lance shots then you're wasting your firepower. | |

Exactly, very nicely put. Guys, you have to remember that Blasters are still straight MEQ killers. S8 means you wound on 2s, -4 means no saves, and regardless of 1 or 3 damage on the D3, you're still killing a Marine. The D3 damage only matters if you're shooting at heavier stuff, which conveniently is still more performant than they were in the past vs. 2W/3W models, but less effective at vehicle-killing unless you have the numbers. ..which.. you should have the numbers because you're playing DE.
