| With 141 points, T3, no Inv Save and no special rules worth a wiff, is there any point to fielding this guy? Maybe someone else can see his potential that I am missing? | |

| From another thread...
the Visarch has quite a bit of synergy with Sslyth.
To elaborate; the size of their base protects him in CC because the enemy is more than an inch away.
Their death triggers his bonus and soulburst, doubling his attacks whenever one of them goes down due to being individual characters themselves.
So on a turn he can potentially put out about 10-14 strength 5 ap-3 d3 dmg attacks. At that point he's paying about 50 points over incubi for +1 strength and d3 dmg instead of 1. As well as the ability to heal himself.
Does that make him worth it? Personal preference I would call it. He fits what I want. An HQ that doesn't embarrass me in combat.
Ironically he'd be pretty great at killing raiders/ venoms.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I had to read his rules three times just to be sure.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I had to read his rules three times just to be sure. The most irritating part is that the Visarch seems to be the DE part of the trio. But maybe they were just trying to accurately represent DE - overpriced glass cannon that exists only for combat and yet barely hits harder than the dedicated psyker and whose main power is taking hits for better factions models.Probably more true in 7th than 8th but still.

Probably more true in 7th than 8th but still. He could've taken some punishment in 8th edition due to Eternal Warrior etc. Right now he can die to a stray bolter.

Ironically he'd be pretty great at killing raiders/ venoms. I really like the synergy with the Sslyth and Soulburst. Gonna try this out next time: Yvraine132 Points Visarch141 points Archon-Blaster -Agonizer -Phantasm Grenade Launcher 76 Points Sslyth44 Points Sslyth44 Points Sslyth44 Points Sslyth44 Points Put the Archon and Sslyth in the first row, so they can draw enemy fire. When a Sslyth goes down, trigger Soulburst on either Yvraine or the Visarch to deal some extra damage. On a 4+ you can also regain a wound on each of them. The enemy you've engaged will probably suffer -2 to their LD (-1 from the Visarch and -1 from Phantasm Grenade Launcher) and you'll bring serious pain with all that Assault Weaponry, Psychic attacks and close combat.

| Use a Supreme Command detachment to buy a bunch of solo Warlocks. They're Characters and Psykers. Each time one of them dies the Visarch and Yvraine both get a boost | |

So basically, he is an expensive beatstick like Dhrazar - low survivability alone, but if he makes it to combat, he devastates? That's the impresion I got from your BR.

| It's a fair assessment. I wanted an HQ that was dangerous and it's him. When is an IC ever alone? | |

| Count has pointed out one redeeming quality of the Viscarch that I think most of us overlooked - he can take ANY wounds off Yvraine, even Perils! That might be a pretty neat thing to try out. | |

| Hopefully going to try it out this week. Yvraine, Visarch, some Incubi and some Warlock Meatshields in a Raider | |

| For some reason, I just pictured the Viscarch holding a flailing Warlock in the air to protect Yvraine from bullets while she pets the cat. | |

| Still not seeing a need for this guy. We just have cheaper, more effective CC options for the points: Troupe Masters, Solitaire, Archon, Succubus.. even Jain Zar might be OK. | |

| I'm not suggesting he's the best choice, but he feels the way I want my "ARCHON" to feel. | |

| Oops! Yes, you're right. Might make the Warlocks into Windriders then so they can keep up with the Raider. | |
