Index Xenos
Species: Dark Eldar
Faction: Ghosts of the Webway
Threat Level: Negligible
Allies: Many, situational
Threat Area: undeterminable

Physical Characteristics

The Ghosts of the Webway is a renegade Kabal who have abandoned the harsh life in Commoragh in favor of making their own way around the galaxy, similar to corsairs. For the majority of their existence, they were a small Kabal, formed before the fall from a pleasure cult. With an aristocratic background, the same family has ruled the Kabal since its birth. The Ghosts are a wealthy organization because they trade with various factions, always trying to enrich themselves with exotic technology and unique items. This Kabal favours material possesions, and make extensive use of the webway. Because of the various drugs that they take, Ghosts have bright blue hair and their minds are sharp, because they are always high on stimulants.

Homeworld

The Ghosts of the Webway are a highly mobile Kabal, with their small fleet of ships they are constantly surging through the Webway to their next destination be it a raid, trading post, or something else. This Kabal has very well archived knowledge of the Webway, stretching back to their founding, which allows them to access many areas that other elder could only dream of.

First Contact

First recorded contact with the Ghosts was 971.M38. This was during a raid on an imperial supply line, supporting a crusade against the T’au. It is thought that the tau had a deal with the Ghosts, although they could have done for other reasons. The attack was noticed while it was in action, although the raiders had left before any imperial forces arrived. The scene was clean, the raiders had methodically come in, taken what they wanted, and left. The ship was lifeless, as if the crew had vanished.

Combat Capabilities

The Ghosts of the Webway are fearsome combatants. They first asses their target and determine whether they need a raiding force with little military power to overtake a small guarding force, or an elite spearhead to swiftly crack through barriers to get at the prized insides of a target.

The raiding forces of the Ghosts are well renowned as masterfully stealthy. Many raids are not discovered until weeks or years afterward, with the raiders doing such a good job at covering their tracks.

The military task forces, however, are a whole different story. The forces of the Ghosts attack the foe from the inside, striking from many angles. The Ghosts overwhelm weak points in the enemy battle-line, with many small, high-speed elements gunning down and slaughtering the enemy. The ghosts can strike from anywhere due to their proficiency with the Webway, and will take the shortest route possible to reach their objective. Because of the small size of this Kabal, the Ghosts must utilize these tactics because every loss is felt, and their small task forces are very elite, but comprise many small elements to overwhelm the foe.

Technology

The Ghosts of the Webway enjoy many types of technology due to their well-travelled and wealthy nature. They are known to have many ways of manipulating the Webway, unique darklight technology, and a vast plethora of drugs and toxins. The Ghosts favor anti-grav skimmers and employ many forms of augmentation.

The signature technology of the Ghosts is their handheld Webway-manipulators. These devices can reconfigure, and even create new parts of the Webway. These devices are psychically charged, through the use of a soulstone, and often constructed with the unwanted help of the harlequins. These devices allow these raiders to open small holes in realspace, allowing for their sudden combat philosophy.

The darklight weapons of the Ghosts of the Webway contain the energy of a thousand stars, but in the unique form of psychic energy. The ammunition of these weapons open small holes into the warp, similar to that of Eldar D-cannons. Targets are ripped savagely out of existence, to be devoured by the foul creatures of the warp.

The Ghosts use many drugs to enhance their combat, but they particularly favor Hekxrys. This drug has the strange effect that time seems to slow down for the user, allowing them to be more precise and give more though to their plans and actions. This drug also has the side effect of giving the user random brief lapses into the near future, allowing them to make better judgments.

Social Structure

The social structure of the Ghosts of the Webway is unique. Instead of the usual hierarchy present in a Kabal, the Ghosts have a more fluid system where nobody has a set rank, so power fluctuates more frequently. Assassinations are uncommon, although inter-Kabal takeovers and corruption are rife. The society of the ghosts is dictated more by business, with successful traders becoming the more powerful members of the Kabal. Alliances are also common between members, as if they band together they will mutually benefit.

The Ghosts are known to ally and trade with almost anyone if it suits them. The only sworn enemy of the ghosts is the harlequins, as despise their knowledge of the Webway. The ghosts have also attempted to seize the black library multiple times, although it is unknown if they have ever succeeded.

The ghosts are also disliked in Commoragh, as they had many stolen possessions and debts when the left that they never repaid. They are also disliked because of their trading with mon’keigh, and their untraditional nature.

Threat index
The Ghosts of the Webway are a negligible threat to the vast imperium of man. Although often succeed in their raids and take large bounties, they are a relatively small group and so have very little impact on the imperium. The imperium has tried to exterminate the ghosts, although they have found that it is too hard to purge these aliens, and not worth it given their insignificance.

some more:

Notable Members/groups:

-Baron Von Dryek is the current leader of the Ghosts, who dueled and defeated the former owner Archon Kharedres. He is a megalomaniac, who has complimented the fleet with several stolen mon’kiegh ships. He has a particular fancy for tau technology, and enemy leaders possessions. The Baron was also the leader that initiated the Kabal’s swift exit from Commoragh. Dryek often has moments of genius, and is so crazy that he will, without hesitation, send fleets of men to their deaths just for the thrill of it. He is very flamboyant and enjoys eating and wearing whatever he can, often having lavish dinners where diners are forced to eat strange foods that often kill them. The Baron, however strange, is an extremely masterful tactician and fighter, often winning battles through wit before they start. Nobody knows about Drydek’s past, although it is thought that he was born in a heamonculi’s vat, and spent his youth with hellions.

-Archon Kharedres was the former leader of the Kabal, but was killed in a duel with the Baron. He has a noble heritage; his ancestors were the founders of the pleasure cult that became this Kabal. Archon Kharedres was a sensible, measured man, especially in comparison to egoistical, unpredictable Baron Von Dryek. Several parts of Kharedres can be found around the fleet if you look carefully, Dryek is still enjoying decorating the fleet with the Archons remains.

-The Rending Serpents are an elite group of trueborn that were guards to Archon Kharedres and are now unwillingly commanded by the Baron. These trueborn resemble the Archon in nature, being calm and calculating. They greatly dislike the Baron, but are forced to go along with his strange actions. The serpents are very wealthy, wielding exotic weapons into battle, aloft in their personal venom. One member was recently executed for challenging Dryek in status and power, because he wore a red cloak.

Very very nice background!

Strangely similar to my Web way based Kabal. We should work together and trade and raid a bit.

mmmm.... I do have an interest for some tau (still alive). They are very funny creatures and the cry that they make when you kill them is most hilarious.
