Ah. Its your local rule then. Its fine if you and everyone else you play with is OK with it. It just is not according to official rules and unusable in, dare I say, most games.

Oh well, what do i know. I thought outside of tournament W40k was always played as a consensus of rules between 2 players.

So let's not linger on the use i proposed. The point of the discussion was to try and find ways to use reavers, not debate on how lines of sight work.

Objective grabbers, and first round of combat intiaters. They tank overwatxh as mentioned earlier, and they are fast so hopefully they can get into combat first turn, latest turn 2, giving the rest of the army time to catch up and join. Unless enemy breaks away, then you charge again and hit them with another round of grav talons

But we need to know the rules in order to find a good use for the units lol...... We have to assume everyone is playing the main rules and not House rules.

As for how to play them effectively.

IMO Reavers and Hellions are still fine to use, but they work best in a Drug list (You max out the drugs by taking Cheap Wych units to pick the ones you want for the rest of your army).

A Succubus, a Hellion and a Reaver unit will get the drugs they want/need 1st, take 3 more nits of Wyches to max out the Drugs then any other Hellion or Reaver units will pick w.e ones they want.

IMO Hellions need to be in at least 10mans, 5mans yes are easier to hide, but Hellions MSU just doesnt work, they give up to much power and 1st blood potential, also you cant do some cool CC shenanigans with a small unit.

Reavers can be played either MSU or mid-larger size units (depending what you want) if you want a character hunting one, a larger unit might be better b.c you will have a better chance to kill them in 1 round. If you want Objective grabbers and fast shock units then MSU is the way to go.

Either way, taking a few (3-4) Wych units can really benefit a Drug Army and are CHEAP so you can spam more Bodies as well and this is very important, KEEP THE ENEMY THERE, so your Bikes and Hellions can Hit'n'Run/Fall back without having to worry about that unit shooting you.

(On the topic of assigning drugs, include some beast+beastmaster is always cool as they are the best unit for +2 ld drug).

As for unit size, there is a dilemma : i fear 3 bikes playing as objectives grabber might be frustrating, since now it's all about number of models. Losing an objective to a bunch of scouts/pathfinders would be pathetic. But 6 bikes is a budget...

But 8th edition is also the edition of tank-tarpiting, so i guess some success could be had with 3 reavers advancing first turn and tarpiting some long-ranged tank. You could do worse with 90 points.

Some uses for reavers. Im using 3 manz MSU.

Great in IGOUGO deployment,
support assault units,
add to AT shooting,
pressure his backfeild,
murderlate small/shooty/weakened units,
shut down shooting,
absorb overwatch,
bait units,
assassinate a poorly placed HQ,
grab objs,
linebreaker,
blocking.

They are a fast, sneaky and tactical.

I'm still not sure how hellions survive a bit of leftover small arms fire. scratch

I plan on testing out a wych druggie list soon. All reavers getting +1T, all hellions getting the +1A, the two beastmasters are soaking +2Mov and the +1WS one (meh), wyches getting the +1S and Succubus getting the +LD buff. We'll see how it goes..

Isn't leadership useless on succubus? Much better on beast master

If primaries marines are T5, you might want strength on hellions. Strength 6 will give you 3 ups against marines of all types and 2 ups on guardsmen, 4 ups on light tanks. Guess it dependable on your meta

Hellions with Grave Lotus is Strength 5.

On the topic of drug repartition, Grave Lotus is great but has the drawback of being wasted on an Agonizer. Consider using a Stunclaw/a power sword in a unit of Hellion with Grave Lotus.

The stronger thing about drugs is that you can choose them before the match. I will never build up an unit for one drug. A Reaver will not ever want +1T nor an Hellion +1S in my opinion.

Anyway, Hellions are dead after those FaQs Sad

Reavers still usefull as Character killers. HL and Talons.
