Some people have custom titles, generally through winning a competition.

Some people have custom titles, generally through winning a competition. Or being awesome.

| Might I add that "Incubi" is plural, while its singular form is "Incubus"? Something that has always annoyed me. Likewise, "Succubi" and "Haemonculi" are all plural forms as well and should be written in their "-us" forms when referring to an individual. Off-topic bonus: - The plural of "Carnifex", "Haruspex", (and everything that ends in -ex), but also "Hekatrix" is formed with "-ices", so: "Carnifices", "Haruspices", "Hekatrices". (Usually the plural of "Codex" is "Codices" as well, but in English people tend to say "Codexes".) - The plural of "Talos" and "Cronos" is "Taloi" and "Cronoi". - The often used "41st millenia" is wrong as well, as "millenia" is plural and "millenium" is singular. /linguistic rant | |

You could always consider that Dark Eldars are just an italian mafia, and decline it "Incubo" "Incubi". For the rest of your rant, fellow linguist, i can only approve and applaud.

| Also linguistic: Why most titles are of Latin etymological origin while Talos and chronos are Greek? | |

| @Mppqlmd: That could very well be, but "Incubi" would still be the wrong name for an individual warrior. And great to know there are other llinguists around here. Do you specialize in anything particular? I do in etymology, typology and general phonology. @Logan Frost: Well, "Archon" (ruler), "Sybarite" (citizen of Sybaris, later synonimous to "hedonist"/"voluptuary") and arguably "Dracon" (dragon), too, are Ancient Greek as well. The reason? I guess because it just sounds cool, simple as that. | |

| @Kinnay Draco is Latin for dragon, yet Draco was a Greek legislator, from which the term 'draconic' derives, possibly used with Archon to follow the Eldar Greek naming style (Autarch, Exarch). I have a passion for linguistics, but is not my field of study, also I'm Italian so Latin is almost my second language. | |

| However the indeed latin term "draco" is derived from the Ancient Greek word "drakōn" for "serpent", which is why I've written "and arguably Dracon" in my initial reply. But yes, gotta love some linguistics. There are worse interests to have! (E l'italiano è la lingua più bella del mondo, secondo me. Vorrei tanto sapere parlarla fluentemente! Mi sono assolutamente innamorato con tutta la cultura italiana e sono un po' invidioso di tutti gli italiani. ) | |

| Surely you can write it fluently. It's not easy to write in Italian like you did. You could almost pass for a native speaker if not for 'sapere parlarla ', in the impersonal indicative form it would be 'saperla parlare', Italian grammar is hell (I had to Google the exact name of the conjugation ) But we are derailing the thread hard. | |

| Haemonculus is also greek, seems to be a common theme amongst the Dark Eldar. | |

| Aren't the translations for each army derived from the Imperium, which is based around Greek/Latin? I wonder what the Drukhari translations would be. They at least gave us that name to work with, no longer the name the Imperium calls us. | |
