Yncarne!!! What is your experience so far?

I have been having this strong urge to use the Yncarne in my Drukhari and/or Ynnari army.

I am curious to hear what your experience has been playing with and against the Yncarne so far?

What are your opinions and theories on him?

How best to use the Yncarne in an army? What kind of list would you like to try him in?


I am thinking that while expensive. The Yncarne is well worth the 330+points. With a solid armour and invulnerable save, healing back wounds from friendly Aeldari models dying, a solid speed of 8, and rad sword, psychic powers, the FLY keyword ect. She gives the Drukhari/Ynnari a lot of tactical flexibility in lists. She is a good assault unit that can rip most things apart in the game. Especially with Ancestors Grace for re-rolls, and soulburst either from Word of the Phoenix or something dying near by. Both psychic powers are fairly easy to cast as well.
That and having some more deny the witch isn't too shabby either.

The Yncarne can appear pretty much anywhere you want on the board via crap dying. Having the Yncarne appear on your opponents turn only to be assaulted on our following turn can really put a wrench in your opponent plans. That and jumping all over the board can be amazing.


I am unsure of a list at the moment.
MSU seems the best way to go for sure. Especially if you are playing Ynnari.
I have been thinking that a bunch of fast/deep strike units would be a good idea. Flyers, Razorwing flocks, bikes, scourges, harlequins ect. At least a few units. This should hopefully make it easier for the Yncarne to pop up near the enemy when needed. And protect her from shooting from having other friendly units closer to the enemy. Of course no list would be complete without some long range support. Ravagers, Dark Reapers etc help a lot here.

I have also been thinking about taking a bunch of small units of Razorwing flocks to be really annoying for the opponent. Clog charge lanes, screw up DS and forst turn assaults, die easy to help activate SfD etc.  I have also been thinking about having a bunch of units consisting of a single Razorwing flock.

What do you think of the Death God?

P.S. the Yncarne having the FLY keyword is amazing. Being able to assault flyers will be fun.

Am I correct that he can't be targeted if there is a closer unit? That seems like its an important factor.

Why does she/he cost almost twice a daemon prince? Am I missing something?

Daemon Princes don't get to regenerate wounds every time a Chaos model dies near them. Or teleport across the field when any model dies.

The ability of the Ynnari characters to regenerate lost wounds got much better in this edition, I think.

Better abilities, better save, solid psychic powers, regenerates, teleports all over the board. Soulburst. Makes friendly units fearless. A better CC weapon etc. Just a really good model

I do love Razorwing flocks! But I don't like being too spammy. It gets boring. And like 20-24 flocks. Haha!

I used The Yncarne and Yvraine in a 3 team, 750 points game.

Everyone dished out some serious pain, but The Yncarne was hit with Smite on an initial roll of 11, then d6 of 6 for wounds. Just couldn't recover from that (and some lucky rolls from a space marine tac squad that took 2 more wounds).

Going with this list for a similar (ridiculous game) tomorrow... (last minute).

I used the Yncarne in a game recently, against Tyranids. He performed as well as I had hoped. He burst forth from a destroyed Starweaver and wreaked havoc among the opponent's Carnifex and Hive Tyrant. With a high chance of 4-6 d6 damage per fight phase he can really pack a whollop. I'll probably use him again in the future.

Note, however, he is rather fragile. 9 wounds with medium toughness and saves only lasts so long.

When I make my lists the thing I weigh the Yncarne against is the Tantalus, and usually the Tantalus wins out. It's worse in combat but is no slouch, especially if it gets the charge, and its leadership aura, while not as powerful, works on anything in LoS. It can't teleport but it can move 32" a turn and it can start the game deployed. Better yet it has the ability to actually shoot things for a massive amount of damage.

Don't forget that if you go Ynnari army, he has a "ignore wounds on 6+" bubble for all units around him and while PfP gives it army wide if you mostly field de, it's a fun skill to drop on the table if you go with mixed forces, like DE for shooting from gunboats and Harleys for CC. The clowns will be thankful for that additional bit of survivability.

I've found the benefit to amount to not quite a hill of beans.

Were you specifically attempting to maximize the benefit?

The Tantalus has no psychic ability, can't regenerate wounds, has an inferior morale boost (with a broader range), and inferior melee capacity.

I think the only thing it really has to its credit is some better shooting and the ability to transport infantry, but I don't think the Tantalus does what the Yncarne does at a better price.

Are we comparing an HQ / warlord option with psychic powers, a whole different army setup focused on strength from death etc. to a FW big ass shooty transport?
It's like saying I don't take grotesques because I have the option of using.. war walkers?
