Dark Lances on the Wing

My friends and I are having a debate and I can't find the actual ruling in the books. If you have a squad of Scourges armed with Dark Lances and use the Winged Assault rule to Deep Strike, do they count as having moved? In other words, do I get a -1 to Hit with them that turn?

In the reserve part of the core rules(in my, german, book page 177, next to movement phase) it says that you count as having moved when arriving from reserves in any way so yes -1 to hit with the Dark lances on that turn.
You also cannot move or advance any further in that turn either.

It's not just in the German version, that's true in the English as well. Nice for fielding this one Marrath!

Ah damn. So knowing this...do you think four Heat Lances or Dark Lances? I will primarily be dealing with either Eldar or Astra Militarum.

Even though it's -1 to hit after moving, i think the consensus on this forum is that Dark Lances are still the best for now.

Four Dark Lances would spell doom even if only two of them wounded, you'd cripple what you shot at. Then, you could finish it off with the death of a thousand cuts.

Heat Lances are not viable for Scourges. You can't Deep strike into meta range

Appart from that, with HL you pay 5pts to :
- Lose 2S
- Gain -1 AP that is useless against everything except Land Raiders, and even then it's less useful than having +2S
- Lose half your range
- Gain assault instead of heavy


Get DL, deep strike your scourges in a cover blocking LOS where they only can see their target. That's the best protection you can get for them.
And don't feel obligated to move them every turn. With 36" range you really don't have to, and if you don't, they become even better.

That seems very situational.  I think the amount of LOS blocking terrain that can (effectively) conceal a whole scourge squad isn't super common.  It definitely isn't on my group's tables.

That's true (although you only have to conceal 4 of them ^^). But it's the ideal scenario.

The second ideal scenario is deep striking them out of range from everything, except their target. That way, when you take it down, you are protected from most things (except enemy DS, of course). And that makes the DL a safer weapon.

Having the full range of a dark lance also helps accomplish the goal of hitting and not getting hit as hard back.
