500 pts Starter List

Hello,
I've just started collecting Dark Eldar and am putting together a starting army list. Any critique would be helpful as I'm just getting around to playing rather than painting (start of a new edition seemed as good a time as any to jump in) Thanks!

I would strongly recommend to never have Kabalites on foot. Instead of two squads of ten Kabalites, use two squads of five and cram them into the Raider. I'd give both squads Blasters. Never use Shredders, there is no situation where you should consider buying Shredders. Unless I'm misreading the rules, there is no real reason to use Cluster Caltrops over Grav-talons. The Archon should hide behind a building or a big rock and never see combat. Consider giving your Arena Champion an Agoniser, as he is the one most able to get use out of it. Give your Sybarites Phantasm Grenade Launchers.

This should leave you with 96 points left. Mandrakes are a good investment. Otherwise, a Venom isn't very effective by itself, but will save you money in the slightly longer run. (Unless you want Mandrakes in your long-term vision of your army. Then get Mandrakes.)

I echo the advice of Pain Engine, we never want our troops outside of the bubble wrap that is their transport because anything will delete them.

An Archon in a squad of wyches is quite fun, but safest use for him is a backline objective holder.

I like Venoms, splinter cannons aren't to bad and work as an ok firebase as well as chaff.

My experience is that in 500 pt battles the transports are less mandatory then in larger battles. From a pure win loss ratio I think losing the shredder, and possibly fixing another transport by reducing both squads is a smart move.
From a gaming perspective I find that it means you either steamroll the opponent since he does not have enough anti tank. Get busted because he does easily kill a raider a turn. Or just has to many boots on the ground for you to kill in time. Which means you either get killed super fast or there is barely anything he can do to you. In both cases it won't be the nicest games usually.
