Craftworld Altansar - Base Spray

Hey guys

So, in the new year, I intend to start painting my collection of models after a long time of collecting: as much as I like building them, the ones that I've got already can't stay unpainted forever! I've already decided on a scheme for the Craftworld units - Altansar - based on a picture/the lore in the codex (plus, I like the idea of an army based around Maugan Ra), and thanks to the citadel app, I have an idea of the basic colours to use, given their similarity to the Dark Reaper colour scheme. (At this point, I'm still deciding what colours to do my Kabal/Cult, as I want to do a custom colour scheme for them.)

The only question I have regards the base spray: Do I use black or white for the undercoat? And is there any discernible difference in the end result between the two? I know black would probably be better for the Dark Reapers, but I'm not sure whether it would be too dark for the purple used by Craftworld Altansar (at least, based on the (few) images in the codex).

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I think what confused me was that one of the pictures in the current Craftworlds codex (where they show off all the models) must've been a bit more vibrant than usual. The purple used on the model seemed a bit too bright to warrant a black undercoat.

I always spray my models grey. Takes colour much better than black and it hides mistakes a bit better than white primed models. Plus it is easier to do zenithal hilighting with grey.

I second this.

I spray nearly everything white. When I occasionally spray something black I usually regret it (looking at you, Mandrakes).
