Tinfoil Hatting: Idoneth Deepkin x DE

Time to put on your tinfoil hat and delve into a crazy (and most likely entirely wrong) theory:

There may be some link between our Codex and the Idoneth Deepkin for Age of Sigmar.

It seems highly likely that they were meant to be first revealed at the Age of Sigmar Open Day, but if you recall that was cancelled due to snow. At that time we were hearing the first rumblings that Tau May come before us, but we were still expecting our reveal to be soon. IIRC there wasn’t a community preview article that weekend, and instead the first Tau article appeared on the Monday or Tuesday.

Recent reports are that the Idoneth Deepkin are roughly the AoS equivalents of the DE: raiding forces feasting on souls. It could then be possible, that GW’s original plan was to reveal the ID, and then follow that up with our codex, as they are thematically linked. However the snow delayed the reveal, and so our codex was delayed too. Therefore the reports from multiple sources that we would be the first codex would have been correct at the time, but the plan changed due to the weather.

Now, if you want to get really crazy, we could theorise that the sea creatures for the ID could be duel kits for new Covens monsters. That would be awesome, especially if the codex is being split. We have seen it happen with Tzangors after all...

The Shipwreck model shown in the fish bowl promo video is called an Ethryic Vortex.

With Tau releasing tomorrow, we could be looking at previews of Necrons next week with pre-orders going up on the 24th and release on the 31st. That would give us Drukhari previews from 1st April (oh the irony), pre-orders on 7th and release on 14th, which matches what was posted above.

Who knows?

Hoh. Now that’s an interesting answer. From the way I see it, there’s two ways to interpret that

1) these “Leakers” have seen the new Codex and it’s spangly new rules but somehow managed to avoid the contract and are thus free to say whatever they like, so the leaks are 100% true and spot on...

Or

2) The “Leakers” haven’t signed the contract because they either haven’t seen the Codex and are just having a go at us, or they’ve seen the Codex in a non-GW approved manner.

That’s a 2/3 options that they’ve seen the Codex, that’s a 3+ someone roll a die!

In terms of Idoneth Deepkin. I expect they’ll be related to Dark Eldar the same way Warhammer Fantasy Elves are related to Aeldari.

Were you imagining it was a shadow field roll? If so, that increases the odds a fair bit.

Had that happen once.

First turn. 7th edition game. I had deployed everything in boats, in cover out of line of sight, around 36" away from the enemy. Tau player had a forge world riptide variant. Moved 30", torrented 12" with a 2-shot AP2 S6 Flamer, double tapping two of my raiders huddled in a ruin out of LoS. Cooked everything inside both raiders, including archon and retinue of incubi. Then to add insult to injury shot the one raider it could see a part of with a multi-shot haywire cannon of some description.

We called the game before I even got a chance to act.

DAMN IT. If April 1st is even remotely accurate, thats a release one day AFTER I have to get an army list for an event in. DAMN IT. Bloody typical.

Just as an aside, the Idoneth miniatures are STUNNING! I'm not into AoS but if I ever decide to do it that would be the army I want to play.

Actually, I was thinking the infantry with spears would make a great starting point for converting Incubi.

I was going with turtelves myself, but elfish works.

There looks like some definite conversion potential there, particularly with the eyeless guys. I already want to use the head and right hand from the pointing wizard guy for something.

There is a ton of potential from that range. I could actually see the Avatar of Manthlan or the dude riding the Uni-dragon-horse thing. being the Yncarne (If you roll Ynnari), and a ton of other fun conversions you could do with them.

The Deepkin models look dope enough that they might drag me into AoS no matter how much I protest (glory to Naggaroth). Either that or I get that sweet flying turtle and put Dark Lances on it.

Yeah I've resisted AoS for so long since the fall of WHFB, but these new sea elves are definetly making me reconsider that decision. We'll see for sure once the new models are all fully released.

I really want to put a gun in its mouth and call it a ravager or a reaper. I love the idea of it blasting fools with dark light from its mouth gun.
