Need assistance of upcoming purchase - Drukhari

Hello all,

I purchased a bundle of Drukhari on a whim several weeks ago. Looking at the leaks, I am happy I did. I want to buy some more, (because I need at least a 1000 points).

Here is what I have:
x1 Archon
x20 Kabalite Warriors
x3 Reavers
x2 Raiders

I am interested in the following.....which would be best in your mind?

1 - x20 Kabalite Warriors - used set for cheap
2 - x5 Scourge
3 - The upcoming $85 box set

Yeah I assume he means the Starter Kit with Wyches, Venom, and Reavers.

Scourges are generally a solid way to go, but based on what I've seen thus far, you may want to get a little Coven action going too. Consider some Wracks and a haemonculus.

Also mandrakes are a lot of fun to toss in.

Think i would wait just a little with mandrakes, till Deepkin from AoS comes out. Looks like there are good conversion options in them for mandrakes.

If its the starter kit, with what you have atm, i would probably go with 1 more of the old starter kits, so you got 2 archons (good for battalion) 30 kab warriors, and 3 raiders. I know that is a little "boring" but its mostly because it will be a limited sale. Its a very good box, you save a lot of money, and 30 kab in the 3 raiders will provide you a good base for Kabal style play.
The raiders will come in handy later on when you expand into wych cult and coven.

Scourges seems to be able to fit into every faction, so they are going to be an important part of every army i think, tho especially Wych Cults come to mind, as they probably will lack Anti Tank guns, unless reavers becomes amazingly good at tank hunting.

I would go with both starter kits, the kabalite and wyche starting kits. Though get the warrior starting kit before its no longer available would be best bet.
I'd hold of on warriors as it might be more in your interest to get them from starter kits and save quite a bit in process, depends how cheap you get them, more warriors is never bad, you do run them a lot and i think 20man squads will be quite common again on foot.
Can't go wrong with scourges tbh, a bit pricier for only 5 men and 1 of each weapon type.
However if you are willing to wait you can get the gangs of commoragh boxsets, i'm gonna bet the rules are good for reavers and hellions, but i'd wait and see in 2 weeks to know exactly how they fair when we have full rules, the value from those boxes is huge, 6 reavers and 10 hellions plus the markers in the box will come in handy at times too.

I would start with themes: Do you like Kabal, Wych or Coven?

as some one about to spend ~$300 on stuff, wait till the codex drops. i had it all planned out but with the releases so far this week my plans have been totally upended.

I always end up needing infantry, but I like Wyches and Kabalites.....not a fan of the Coven portion. The used Kabalite Warriors are a good deal and are painted differently then my current scheme so they would fit as a different Kabal.

I think I am locked in on buying the new Starter set, but not immediately. I think it will be Scourge or the Kabalite Warriors due to the lower cost.

Just my recommendation:

Scourges. And another SC Kabalite box. That way you'll be able to fully kit your new Scourges and have a solid Kabalite base, and a few Reavers. Enough to play and get a feel on them, then build up from there. I wouldn't go for the cheap second hand Kabalites as, cheap as they may be, you could use that money for other things. And you'll still be in need of some more special weapons for kitting the Scourges if you buy them.

Better save a bit more and go the full deal way. To save money, just go buying it at a discount store like Wayland Games, Element Games, Goblin Gaming, Kirton Games, WarGameStore, Firestorm Games, Gifts for Geeks or Triple Helix Wargames for example.

I wouldn't worry about needing more infantry. Not being a Coven fan (you said so) you'll end up buying the newer SC Wych box sooner or later... The Venoms you'l need them for Incubi (another possible future purchase) and the Archon+Sslyth (same as before).

Just my two cents and a sincere will to help alongside the understanding that it's a particular point of view that could be well and fully wrong...

If money/price is something you are trying to keep control of then just wait another week to get the codex.

If it's not and you just want to get started then I'd suggest getting some more warriors and then wait a week before buying anything else while you paint everything you have thus far.

The way the leaks are shaping up it's apparent that there are going to be multiple ways to build an army. Which means it's going to be incredibly easy to get side tracked on what to buy.

Good info guys. I have great ideas for my second purchase, (besides the obvious codex buy next week). I had store credit to use, so that locked me into what they had and they didn't have much due to the restocking of some of the Drukhari items etc. So it was Scourge or the used Kabalite Warriors.

Because they were bone colored already, (the route I wanted for a 2nd Kabal scheme) I purchased the Kabalite Warriors.

Next will be the codex and the new Starter Box. I am less of a fan of the Scourge wings, but I understand that the unit will be needed.......(maybe I'll find some jetpacks that will work as a substitute to the wings...............(strange enough, I like the idea/possibility of wings on my Archon......go figure!)
