Help with target priority against Orks

Hi all,

I have a 2000 pt game against Orks this Saturday. Never played them before and was looking for advice about what to target first. Based on what I’ve seen of some of his other games, my opponent will probably be running 2-3 big units of 30 Boyz with a Power Klaw in each, , one or two 10-15 man units of Tankbustas with Rokkits, some Trukks, Mek Guns(?), and the FW Meka Dread thing, that looks pretty scary on paper. Probably expect to see a War Boss on a Bike, Weird Boyz, and Storm Boyz as well.

So, on the first couple of turns, what should I try to take out with shooting? I’ll be bringing three DC. Ravagers and 5 x 5 man Warrior w/ Blaster squads in double SC Venoms, as well as a Coven Detachment with a Haemie, 10 x Grots, and 3 x Talos.

First try and make sure the tankbustas en mek guns are neutralized (either kill them or get them in melee) since they are pretty good at killing your grots talos and ravagers.

The meka dread thing I don't know excactly, but usually either focus it enough so it ain't a threat anymore or leave it alone. The biggest mistake with huge things is waisting lot's of firepower on it but not doing enough and it then still being effective.

With the ork boys it depends a lot on the mission. If you play objectives they might be more important, otherwise take your time to evade them and make sure they split up a little bit and then kill one unit at a time, if you cannot split them up they will be really hard to deal with since they are effectively immune to morale as long as another large ork unit or the warboss is nearby.

Biggest thing with orks I found was make sure you kill anything that comes close, try to make sure he spread out and don't try to fight his whole army at once. Don't hesitate to sacrifice something (expecially if he spreads his units out to keep them close together) to stop something from moving or fighting a unit you don't want into combat. I find that as long as I can control the flow of battle against orks everything goes well, but as soon as his units control (not just occupy) a large part of the battlefield it becomes difficult to regain control.

Thanks so much for the advice, IMeavar! Now for the Tankbustas and Lootas (forgot to mention those), they hit on 5’s? So, I should focus on taking out his high strength, multi-damage shooting first and then concentrate on the Boyz? Or would you recommend trying to eliminate one shooting threat and one mob of Boyz per turn so he can’t establish board control early? Oh, the big FW Meka Dread gives friendly units in 9(?] inches a 5++, which may make it a higher target priority as well. I imagine he’ll try to cluster everything around it to increase his army’s t-shirt saves.

I gotta say if hes using da jump to teleport his boys the boys directly in your face are the most dangerous. A truck of tank killas off in a far corner by themselves is less of a threat. If hes just meandering up the board with the giant robot providing kustom force field buffs to his boys hit the dread with your anti tank and hit the boys with your anti infantry. Keep out of charge range. most ork players will also try to lock stuff up in CC with storm boys deep striking in so bubble wrap or take it on the chin and fly away. If you can lock up the slow moving back field shooty stuff with reavers or something to keep them from shooting.

Oh very good point! I completely forgot about Da Jump. With a Nob, Sluggas, and Green Tide, those 29 Boyz can dish out over 120 S4 attacks on Turn One if they get their charge off. I’m thinking my best defense against that is to use the Grots and Talos to bubble wrap and wait for him charge my meat shield. And then use the Vexator Mask to swing first and erase his mob of Boyz
