PostSubject: Cult of the Sweet Oblivion Project Log   Cult of the Sweet Oblivion Project Log I_icon_minitimeTue Dec 13 2011, 05:20

I will use this space to post a log of my first 40k army

Project List:

10 scourges + Solarite painted and Based

5 Raiders, 4 done one remains to be painted (might do crews for all 5)

3 Ravagers painted and finished

2 Razorwing Jetfighters, one done but will be repainted other one built but not painted

4 Venoms painted and finished

10 Kabalite Trueborn + Duke Sliscus Conversion, Assembled, Painted and mostly based but i am not happy with the results for Sliscus so might redo them.

10 Hellions + Baron Sarthoryx Conversion, Assembly in progress

Talos Pain Engine, Assembled awaiting painting

Court of the Archon:
Lhamaean assembled
Slyth assembled
Ur-Ghuls converted and basecoated.
Medusae missing 2nd body conversion before i begin.

OOP Archon x2, One painted, one stripped and ready to paint.

30 OOP Mandrakes converted into Wracks, Re-painted (bought on ebay a while ago painted) to try to enhance the original paint job that was quite poor.

Razorwing Flocks, substitute found 3 painted, awaiting remaining 4 to finish.

Tantalus, assembled, awaiting some green stuff fixes before painting

============================================================

Lets start with my Venoms; i need some color advice, green or blue?

This is a slightly more advanced version of the green one:

I know some freehand would look great but i am uterly incapable of that level of detail.

Well let me know what you guys think

I think you are selling yourself short. Have you tried drawing freehand designs with a detail pen first before painting them in?

No never tried that, any specific kind of pen?

Edit: nm checked your project log and saw your tutorial. I will give it a try on some older pieces and see what i can come up with.

Thanks

I thin either color is going to be good looking, but if I had to choose, go with the green.

I like to do larger freehand detail work by using a pencil with a sharp point. much more forgiving then a detail pen, but either does the job.

I went with the green scheme as suggested. I decided against runes on the hulls; i think the models have enough details as it is.

My new Razorwing (and old one if i can find a decent paint stripper) is next and that one will need some freehand on it.

In the meantime here are the finished Venoms

Very Nice. They look really good and I like that you did all the riders as well.

Thx Gar, now because you said that i need to find the courage to finish all the ones for the Raiders Razz (or convert them into troops).

Finished some Scourges while prepping the Razorwing and my last cheap 5th 2$ raider (thx hoards of bits).

The Scourges turned out ok but the matte varnish killed all the layering for some reason; the armor looks like single color and the wings lost a lot of their details... Last time i try an Army painter anti shine product.

Dark Eldar Tantalus - Cleanup and Assembly

Size Comparison

I am still cleaning up the model and resetting the shape as i go, the sail proved to be the hardest to get into a decent shape as its nor made from the same resin mix as the body resulting in a more flexible model but also a much softer resin.

What i use as a proxy for Razorwing Flocks, not sure what is GW thinkings charging that much for something that should come as a Boxed set.

I thought that you were kidding about them sending a standard skimmer base rather than a flying base. That little thing looks silly! (They are sending you a replacement, right?)

Really digging the sails on the Raiders/Ravagers. Nice work!
