How much to deploy? / Talos vs Ravagers

I play a WWP list and I usually have a Venom & 2 Ravagers deployed; but I am thinking of using Talos's as my AT. If I do this though I only have a venom deployed then.

Do you think talos's are worth it over a ravager?
Is having one vehicle deployed to much of a risk?

For anti-tank I would rather go Ravager because talos are pretty slow but I also have never played WWPs which would put a talos up close and personal much quicker. I also have seen to many talos go down from force weapons and the like so I tend to stay away from them...

I would deploy the Ravager in a heartbeat. The Talos is worth its weight in gold our of a WWP. I'd also rather have the 3 DL's of the Ravager first turn rather than having a Talos that will lose at least a couple of wounds before it gets near an enemy model. I've honestly not used a Talos without a WWP in this edition of the codex, it's that good.

I would run at least two portal drop options - I don't know what you have in that Venom, but unless your opponent is playing *really* cruddy army if he gets first turn he ought to be able to kill a Venom and its passengers in one shooting phase. and suddenly your army is reserve footslogging (which isn't a good plan).

Yea in the Venom is some blasterborn with two hamies with wwp. I always make sure there behind cover but i think im spoiled in always going first so far. I have the ravagers as alternat targets to try and act as decoys. Im just wondering if deploying one vehicle is too much of a risk.

If I do make up some talos's (not a huge fan of the model) they definnantly pop out of the portals. But that will force me to have one vehicle on the board. And as funny as it is to see my opponent try to counter deploy one vehicle( been playing casually) i know my going first luck will run out eventully. Even with the Baron

I ran a talos with NO WWP on the weekend at a tourney - i now want 3. I also ran no ravagers and only 1 razorwing.

With a haywire blaster they still have a reliable impact on the game from turn 1 shutting down the vehicles likely to kill them and for so few points the stats and MC status make it a steal!

Yes, the non-wwp talos is perfect with a haywire blaster. I have some call me crazy for using them (not here) in a non-wwp list but with their move and range of the haywire blaster they can hit the opponent on the first turn. I use my talos as a screen on the first turn, they shield all the rushing raiders and then move up the field. I just feel they last longer than a ravager and pretty much get the same job done - I just have lousy luck with dark lances.

All in all the Talos are just supreme fire magnets and if you ever want a "diversionary" unit to draw fire, put a talos down and start soaking up the fire. I play with 3 Talos alot and it is very rare to lose a talos on the first turn but in my eyes they do last longer than a ravager as it takes more than one good hit to take one down.

You would think haywire blasters are just glancing fun but when you run 3 talos you do get that "6" more often than you think.

What exactly is coming out of the portal?

It would almost seem to me that you would be better off putting the Talos on the table to start to screen the wwp carriers. When that happens to my wwp lists then it is usually back to the drawing board and make a new list.

Reavers, Hellions with the Baron, 2 units of 10 Wracks w/ 2liquifires and a scissor hand; along with a beast master with khymeras. ( the beast master I'm playing around with the idea)

my Deployment pretty much is huddle behind some terrain. move 12 inches disembark deploy WWPs hope they don't blow the venom up killing everything. I would use the Ravagers to flank around on the other side to harass the enemy in provoking them into going for the ravagers instead while aiming for there tanks.

The people I play against normally aren't tournament players and they don't run a lot of vehicles (1-2). But for the sake of what if's consider tournament lists too. ^_^

I play a WWP list almost exclusively. I have found that my Talos are extremely vulnerable to force weapons so I have stuck with Ravagers these days. One critical thing about a WWP list is to make sure you can pop vehicles so that the things coming out of the WWP have something to attack.
