What's everyones thoughts on adding a chatbox to the site?

Spambox?

On forums/sites I often visit it works pretty well, people use it to ask quick questions like "hey, does Inv works with *removed from play*?" and stuff...

I'm positive.

I personally don't use chatboxes very often at forums where there is one, but I suppose one might be useful (as Local_Ork pointed out).

I don't use them either, but I agree it would be handy.

As long as it's only on the front page it wouldn't bother and be handy too.

Using the forum in a telephone might get to crouded though.

The most popular site with one on is 3++ where I was talking to a few guys who visit our forum and said that they'd find one here useful. When I get in from work tomorrow I'll look at setting one up. I'll move this to public suggestions to get more feedback. If nobody likes it then we can always remove it.

Oh and a white 'safe for work' skin, I'll look into that too.

ChatBox is now live, if people are fond of it then it will stay, if not... etc.
I've tried to work out how to get Chatango at the bottom but so far I can't figure it out.

Oh, and what do you think of the black surround on the forum?

Black don't quite work out IMHO. Too much contrast.

I don't mind the black at all, but the purple quote boxes are a tad bright

God knows I like purple, but good god man!

It could be toned down, like █████ color=#550055 █████



It would look good with white so would work out with quoteboxes and buttons (I'm fan of grey tho. I LOVE PURPLE, but IMHO mixing greys with "cold" colours result in major eyesore.)

We saw them. Eyesore fuchsia to be correct. And buttons in the same colour.

You know guys, I see what's wrong with chat is.

First of all, it require to actually log into it to even see who's online, not to mention messages.
It's also on bottom of page. If we could stick it under "buttons", on top, that would be great.
You can only see it on front page, that don't work out quite well. If we could always see it and be able to "peek" while reading actual content...

We need to configure it/plug something else.

Currently trialling the chatbox at the top of the page. I dont like having it there but if the people say yes then it can stay at the top rather than the bottom.

Really don't think much of the forumotion chatbox, we could try chatango...

I was surprised to see it at the top, but I think at the bottom out of the way....was too out of the way. I think it will garner more use at the top, and it will be nice to talk to people in Realspace time.

I saw it and thought "what the!!!" (no third word, I have oddly clean word choices in my head, disturbing yet clean...) The side like 3++ would work well, don't know if it is difficult in software.

The black on sides looks good, I think that is what the surround is referring to.

If there was a way to have it at side at all times in user profile it may get used more. No idea if software allows for that, or if it has to be done with tricky coding or what not. If it would be time consuming/hard it wouldn't be worth trouble. Some web software is a pain, I've written c programs in less time then I spent finding the setting menu in some apps, so you won't hear me complain about it either way. I would still check forum if it was teal font with pink background. (I would be afraid to see an army painted by anyone that picked that scheme though )

I still don't like it tho. Without "auto loging" (or preview without clicking button, we can join if we would see something neat) and showing messages posted BEFORE Your loged (Archives help, but if there is option to auto-on Archives, switch it.), it's nearly impossible to start any sort of conversation there if You need to hit two buttons every time You visit site (people are lazy and at some point they'll stop giving damn) to keep up.

I'm looking at moving the Chatbox down to the bottom again. I think that the awareness of the Chatbox is now there but for me it detracts from the aesthetics of the forum.

I am looking at adding an actual chatango to the site and possibly some side widgets...

Thoughts?

I think moving it away from the top will be very good. What sort of widgets are you thinking of?

Can you add a link to the chatbox at the top? That way traffic that hasn't seen it yet can click once and BAM! chat time.

this link would be much better. It's an eyesore at the top.

Being at the top is a little annoying as it appears before the forum topics.

All the stuff on the left is making the forum sooo small!
