| First up here is the link... http://www.gdesignsinc.com/ Basically they produce high grade coloured templates, tokens and are branching out into terrain. On to some pics! A great range of colours which can be matched to your army. I was dubious when i opened the pack today as they looked mighty small... then i compared a venom to the template... So as you can see - spot on. Quality wise they are a good thickness which will survive the rigours of gaming very well. The range of colours is massive and the finish on them it top notch! Price wise - they were very reasonable though the postage hurt (like any US purchase :? ) I would go and order a bunch with friends as they seem to be capped at $50 max. I ordered them on the 24th of Jan, they shipped on the 4th of Feb and got here today on the 15th of Feb. Reasonable turn around - i assume they have to be made to order so the 2 weeks between order and shipping is not that bad. Check them out - well worth it! I have all the templates now for all my dark eldar when they inevitabley crash and burn! | |

| Nice, they look very cool, and no doubt much cheaper than buying the appropriate vehicle and modelling it as wrecked (tempting as it is to make them up like this from the start given how fragile our vehicles are). I may have to look into investing in some once I start playing more often. | |

| I gotta be honest guys. While cool these are pricey for what they are. I made my own with sneaky use of my design skills, but you dont even need that. camera, photoshop and card. | |

| Cool idea, thanks Massaen. I'm going to try and make my own, but these might be a good fallback. | |

| I think the whole set was great value... i got 2 razorwings, 4 venoms and 5 raiders. They are durable, consistent, the exactly correct size and very identifiable.
I have emailed them about a custom template for my void raven and it looks like they will do it for me - thats service!

| These are fantastic. I'm not sure whether he is going to have problems with IP legislations though in the long run.
I think I'll be putting an order in soon when he puts the rest of the pictures back up.

| I mark wrecks by adding a teased out cotton ball to the model so look like smoke, but these do look well made. | |

| I'll admit I'm ending up going different on these. Here's where my thought process went;
1. These are cool, I always wanted craters in the shape of the vehicle for my DE. 2. Hurm, though I use old Raiders and Ravagers...meh, they're pretty close. 3. What color would look least chintzy? 4. Oh, snap! I know, I'll buy them like a 'base' and then add sand, flock, and put down bits of rubble and stuff and paint it all up. 5. These will be awesome! 6. Wait, maybe I could save some money buying them like a stencil - so I'd just need one of each and could carve them out of sheet styrene or masonite or something. 7. Thor...if they're a stencil, couldn't you just use your own models as the stencil and cut them out that way? 8. A new project is born!
At least that was my mental adventure over the last day or so.

| nope, I don't like these at all. Where does it say that when you explode you leave a creator the exact shape of the profile of your vehicle?! Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a prewacked template, but why not just make them a blob shape rather than the naf looking silhoettes? Coincidentally I just bought these today to make some of my own explosion templates. I will use some modelling clay to make the creators and maybe add some wreckage from my bits box. | |

| You need the right shape for disembarking etc - a generic crater creates issues all of its own | |

| @steev - I would say the big advantage to 'identical shape' (or at least 'very close to identical shape' is when something is wrecked it lets you place the crater functionally.
Have you ever exploded a vehicle in assault and then had someone try to put down one of the official GW craters? Or even a homemade crater? Never works right - your models are always shuffled around and moved to make room for the crater, changing the way you had things set up.
In competitive play that can be very annoying. Even in friendly play it can get rough simply because the table can become awkwardly crowded.
At least with an exact shape crater you know when it wrecks that you'll be able to fit the crater marker into the space the vehicle was.
That's why I'm excited by the core idea.

| Part of wants to hold off on this for a bit as the leaked?wtf pdf dictates that there will no longer be craters left by exploded vehicles. Of course I say that with a huge amount of salt in my veins. | |

| I suspect you are right about the craters disapearing in the next ed. Even if the leak is wrong it seems like something that would get dropped. But hey, I'll fun with them in the meantime... - Viking wrote:
Steev: Where did you get that stuff?
from my FLGS, I think they are an Australia company but you can order on line here: http://www.miniaturescenery.com/ @ Thor, the guys you play with must take things more seriously than the folk I play with. I can't say I have ever had a complaint about a crater. Taking into consideration that the explosion can be up to 6" radius, I would have no probs with an opponent putting down a GW creater if they rolled a big explosion. Kudos to them for having one ready. The models aren't an issue either, just pick them up and put them on top of the creater, that is what happens when a vehicle explodes in your face. If my opponent complained about being in difficult terrain, I would let them put their models outside the creater (after I had raised my eyebrow ) @ Massaen, you don't disembark from a vehicle, you place your models where the vehicle used to be. Here are some pics of the first creater:

| To clarify, you place models where the vehicle used to be and can only be inside the footprint and more than 1" away from the enemy - these leave no room for mix up or error in those cases.
Yours look cool though!

| Good for tournaments. You could still make your own though out of plastic card, and then model wreckage and bits on top. (but make sure the minis stand up!) | |

| Actually we are pretty lucky - if You have CG software (even MS paint), You can make footprints of our vehicles out of sprueshots GW provided us. Like here (I changed wings and cockpit a bit) And good job with those craters steev. | |

| These do look pretty sweet; hopefully 6th Edition will support them in some way. If not, you could make some kind of funky silhouette wall art with them!
My current solution for the "exact placement of the crater" issue is to just remove the vehicle from it's stand and leave the skimmer base as a crater. 5 transported models can fit entirely within it, and 10 models can usually get at least part of their base touching if there aren't too many spikey bits intefering. Though, typically 1-3 of them bite the dust anyways, and never leave the safety of their foam tray.
