It seems most of us like to use the Duke, me included, but what are your thoughts on the other special characters? I run Lelith and the Duke often, as they do decent damage for their price points. But what of the big hitters like Vect? Is Lady Malys any good? What about the Baron?

Would love to hear why you use them and how you use them!

The Baron is generally accredited as competitive due to his +1 dice off effect. As a character other than that he's mediocre at best, his biggest win being providing stealth to his unit.

Many people like Vect - I consider him...okay. Basically my playstyle shies me away from point sinks like that, though from all accounts he does excellent damage on the field.

Lady Malys is the unit everyone wants to be good, but no one has figured out how to break yet. She's certainly not bad - but it's hard to verbalize the gains she really gives you on the battlefield. If you put her up versus a regular Archon (identical stats) and buy her wargear you'll see you are getting her abilities dirt cheap, so in that regard she's a solid investment. Everyone also wants the perfect model for her.

Drazhar people want to like - but he's so sub-par compared to Vect for only a smidge of savings that he's relegated to third tier pretty solidly.

Lelith is good at killing hordes - very good. The army doesn't need that and can kill hordes cheaper in other ways - she isn't bad, but she's not what she's supposed to be. Amazing model though.

Decapitator...is Decapitator.

Urien is (in my opinion) inferior to just taking a couple regular Haems. SOme like him, but he's a theme choice, not a competitive one.

I'd like to try Lady Malys, her D3 redeployment intrigues me and the new vampire count stuff looks tempting for conversions. I just like that the Dukes skills are all useful and not so situational.

Drazhar has some cool fluff, I do like him as he has that Phoenix Lord vibe. How useful eternal warrior is remains to be seen, but he does at least trump Vect in that respect. They are both just a lot of points, and that is worrying when they have paper plane transports. Unless you want to really break the point bank with vects pimped ride.

If Drazhar had an Inv Save I thought more people would use him.

Urien is good if you want to use a Coven theme list. He does give up to 3 Wracks or Grots one more pain token. He can upgrade Grots with one more Str each but for a point cost.

Can't really say anything about the others that havn't already been said.

Agreed - T4 is not much of a deterrent if your opponent has some power weapons they'll chew through Draz in relatively quick order.
Vect's 2++ save is a much more intimidating barrier and will even convince people not to bother swinging at you.

Truth to say - Drazhar can really live without Inv, compare to other Phoenix Lords. He can at least have reliable way of hiding from powerfist and the like.

Lelith is fine when she is alone when atacking MSU squads of marines, Grey Hunters , BA Assault Marines, Pufiers and the like. If she is atacking alone atacking side must completely surround her and therefore all will be affected by her shardnet. So its about 6 atacks that hit on 5+ most of times, negated by 3+ save.

Overall she feels not enough killy for her points, but she is definately playable.

I have played her by leaked rulebook - she seems appropriately costed when hitting almost anything on 2+.
