| Hello I need some help. I recently started painting up my force but ran into a problem. I have been working out how I wanted to paint up my guys and decided on a dark green armor with green highlights. I saw a great looking scheme on youtube from a guy who painted his scourges and wanted to go with something like that . However when I finally did it on my Archon it came out looking horrible.
Now Im not unfamiliar with edge highlighting. I painted up my whole Space Wolf army with edge highlights and got alot of compliments on them but it didn't seem to transfer well to DE. I started with a Dark Angels Green basecoat, followed by a Thrakka Green wash, then tried to finish with Scorpion Green highlights like the gentleman in the video said but to me he just looks ridiculous.
So are there any good tips for doing the highlights on the Kabalite Warrior armors?
Thanks

| I would try to do an intermediate highlight with Snot Green. Dark Angels to Scorpion green is a bit of a jump. If you do a layer of Snot Green in between it shouldn't look as harsh. Hope this helps. | |

| Indeed, it is quite a large jump you described. The scheme you've described is very similar to mine; however, I made before the scorpion green HL a "larger" HL consisting of orkhide shade mixed with scorpion green; also, I made after the scorpion green HL an even thinner HL of scorpion green mixed with skull white.
Short spoken, don't make too large jumps in the highlights.

| One word: Washes!
Look at my project log, you can see how I paint green with washes only. http://www.thedarkcity.net/t1825-gastons-garbage-slower-pace
If you want to add an extreme green highlight, just add one white highlight after the first green wash. That way you make the undercoat lighter for the coming layers of washes and it will turn out much brighter then the rest.
Thats how I would do it, and its a quick way to paint kabalite armour.

| I'd go with what ESE suggests, my wyches are done with dark angels green, snot green, scorpion green and finally a (small, thin) highlight of sunburst yellow to give it a real kick. | |

| I've got a very similar paint scheme for my Kabalites as well and - allowing for the fact that my painting skills leave a lot to be desired and I hate painting with a fury born of a thousand suns (not sure why I should add) - my personal variation is as follows:
Black spray (no idea how relevant this is) Dark Angels Green basecoat over armour and bodysuit Knarloc Green Drybrush over armour plates Thraka Green Wash over armour and body suit Edge highlight armour plates Scorpion green Gloss varnish armour
On re-thinking this I think I switched from the above to the wash and then the drybrush though thinking about it now it seems oddly out of place that way - that might be the variation I do for my vehicles - I need to find my painting notes it seems. Personally I've not found the transition to be too stark (though perhaps I should post pics of my Kabal somewhere up here to get some less biased opinon and or feedback) Dunno if that helps.

| Howdy,
One thing that may help. Darl angels green is already a fairly dark color, thraka wash is likely not enough of a wash to make much of a difference in my opinion.
My suggestion is to try using Asurmen blue and then a little badab black wash. The blue deepens the color, while the black will darken it a bit.
Then go back and touch up the DA green as required, then use snot green or a 50-50 mix of dark angels green and scorpion green for a more natural transition.
A touch of yellow on the points, not edges will also help with adding interesting while not overpowering visual appeal.
if you have some pictures I would love to see them.
