| At what point would you take a disint rav over a lancer? in my 1750 list, i have 2 wych squads w/hwg, 3 blasterborn venoms, 2 raiders, and 2 lancers... I make my third rav a disint to deal with pesky high armored units. Knowing how mech heavy the world at large is, what point would you say is a good point to go with a disint rav over a lancer? | |

| If I knew that I was facing footslogging Marines/GKs with no AV support of any kind. That's the only time I think I'd swap out my lances. | |

| to be fair given the current cover situation I cannot think of a reason to eve take a desintegrator ravager over a lance one , our AT is so bad diluting it further to take inefficient weapons is a bit of a no no
course fi you can catch some marines in the open it will kill 4 on average or two if they are in cover , not especially amazing is it ....
you are really better off torrenting lots of saves on them from splinter /razorwings etc
If you are well covered elsewhere you could put some on the odd raider I suppose , I tried it for a while but they genarally do very little, they need an extra shot or a point more of str to be really worthwhile.

| personally I never switch any of my dark lances. Last edition we had a ton of dark matter and it was all for the ravager (although I still ran mostly lances, but I always had one w/ 3 dissies) now adays though without the blast and cover abound, I dont find them worth it. Also consider when shooting at most deathstars a dark lance IDs them... that is huge.
That being said though I guess if you can fit in 20 + DL in a 2k game without 3 Ravagers, then by all means use the dissies. Just be careful that they arent your only AI option

| in a 1750 game you can get 17 lance shots and 2 squads of hwg wielding wyches, and have a single rav as a disint... | |

| The big problem is that some tournements won't allow you to change your list between rounds, so you need to be prepared to face both a horde AND a mech simultaneously, imo... The difficult thing is that DE don't HAVE an all comers list from what i can tell... Nearest ive found is a venom spam... | |

Our TAC list is called mechspam, of which Venomspam is an option. We have a variety of options within that core concept though, and a lot of them work quite well as TAC lists. I, at least, consider every list I make to be TAC, and I seem to be (thus far) fairly correct in that assessment.

| Maybe I am missing something... Why are disi better at horde killing than lances? They get the same number of shots and lance ignores armor on most troops plus is strength 8... Am I missing something? | |

| Dissies get more shots than lances. That would be the big difference. | |

| I do add the razorwing. before the new book I would run 2 trip dissy ravs and one lance. That switched with the new book as the const of lances in other places in the book went up, hence the 2 ravagers now had lances instead. The trip dissy rav was quick to my heart and I only replaced it once I found the devastating potential that the razorwing has at AI. Those missiles, the fact that it could also take dissies and a splinte cannon. That makes it a fantastic AI platform that is definately worth its point cost.
Now, I have considered addind the odd dissy here and there on the raiders in my army... the reson being that the enemy would hopefully drop their target priority for the targets with lances. Then again against armies that have good armour a dissy suddenly becomes enemy number one.
Hope this helps. Just my take on it.
Cheers! | |
