Need another army to play as...

Not abandoning the Dark Eldar, but I feel like I need another army, something different. I've played Tau and Eldar so not them. I also don't fancy Grey Knights, Necrons, Tyranids, Imperial Guard or Chaos demons. So plenty of choice I know
What I want is something quite opposite to the Dark Eldar so have come to the conclusion that I either want to go Ork or some imperium army but I can't choose. Anybody got any suggestions for a theme? I like the goofyness of the Orks which is appealing to me the most.

So what I am asking is for suggestions for a goofy themed Ork army (On a tight budget and time span but with meters of Greenstuff!) I'm thinking BigMeks etc and a mech list. Anybody got any guidence?

pretty much all I can say is pick something you love for your second army. Something that you know you will have fun with everytime you break them out. If it be orks, then by all means go ahead. They are some really cheap ork builds that are lying around, so its not like they are really expensive unless you go for the green tide mentality

what point level you are looking at??? at 2k, normally people run something along the lines of this

2~3 battewagons w/ 20 boys w/ PK nob, 1 has 19 (make room for the Big Mek
Big Mek w/ KFF (sits in one of the BW)
Good size nob biker unit (most people just use the warbiker models as nobs) w/ Warboss on bike w/ PK
rest of the points in lootas

adding it all up, you probably looking around 600 bucks without paint and glue and stuff, but ofc like any army building you start small and work your way up. like at 1k you only need 1 battle wagon, 2 squads of orks, a few nob bikers, the warboss on bike, and a small squad of lootas. At 1.5k you add more lootas and a battlewagon for the foot unit, so on and so forth.

I would recommend Orks or 'Nids, but since you're not keen on the 'Nids I would go with Orks. Very characterful, loads of fun to build and use.

Like any army, they can get expensive, but they are also extremely easy to convert into anything you wish. Get some Assault on Black each squads for cheap while you can, the Warboss, the Deff Koptas, the 20 boyz and the 5 Nobz. That's a good starting point.

Many of their Elites (Lootas, Kommandos, Tankbustas) can be easily and cheaply converted from regular boyz - got some leftover tau or CWE heavy weapons? Tack them onto some boyz and voila, instant lootas. The AoBR warboss ($3) can easily be made onto a Big Mek. Trukks and Looted Wagons, whatever you have lying around.

Mine are Deff Skullz, who scour the battlefields for any scrap they can find and possibly re-use. So it's very easy to come up with some fun conversions for them.

Orks get my vote too. I dabbled in them around 3rd edition. Just be prepared to model and paint a lot, but super fun conversion wise.

However, if you wish to minimize that with Orks, or any army you choose, there's a great video tutorial done a while ago by Thoume on how to speed paint with washes, leaving just small details to finish off. As you will see on this page (which includes the video link), the results can be excellent.

orks are fun, so much STUPID fun. i just never play mine for lack of knowing the codex. i hate needing to dex constantly throughout a game. and my ork army needs trukks bad.
