| Hi all
the thinking behind this idea is that khymerae can come in "packs" of 5 each beastmaster, as the fenrisian wolves are packaged
gold medal to whoever can make sense of that ^^
So my question is with greenstuff, what would be the best... parts to add to the wolves to make them look more like khymerae?
I'm a student so £3+modifications per khymera sounds better than £8.70 each, plus not liking the look of the GW ones.

| Its hard to go wrong if you add some Chaos Spawn parts and do a bit of GS work to cover where they join. One box of Spawn should produce enough for several dozen Khymeras. If you can get your hands on any of the old metal Chaos Spawn heads and tails, they'll work too. | |

| You could paint them So they look covered in blood and feral. With some Greenstuff you could make them look rabid. You could always make them colars and have spikes or blades protruding from their skin. I'm not much use with Beastmasters, but if you experiment and use your imagination then I am sure you could come up with something good. You coul, however, use Cold Ones from the Dark Elves set. You would then also have a load of spare parts. | |

| I saw some conversions somewhere using dire wolves, tyranid talon arms (the gaunt ones) and tenticle things off the talos kit which looks pretty awesome. Could work with fenrisian wolves too i guess. | |

| Personally, I'd agree with S'jet and go with fantasy Dire Wolves when I do more work on my beasts - you get ten for £15, so it's really easy to bulk up a unit with them cheaply. I would try filing the fur off, but after the amount of time it took on rat ogres for my grotesque conversions, I don't think I'll bother, they're only ablative wounds anyway! If you're going for the converted wolf look anyway, they might be worth considering. | |

| I'm going with the Vampire Counts Dire Wolves. I may try to add to them, but I knid of like them just the way they are. | |

| I agree with others that Vampire Count dire wolves are probably the best way to go: they have exposed muscles/bone, which is a bit more in keeping with the khymerae models.
If you don't like those (and they're not the prettiest) then I'd also consider chaos hounds (which have gribbly tentacle bits) or Lord of the Rings wargs as other possibilities. The latter, like the Fenrisian wolves, have the advantage of coming on 40mm round bases, rather than cavalry bases.

| I'm going with Vampire Counts Dire Wolves for mine. I've got plenty of tentacles and mantis-like claws from the Chaos Spawn kit that I bought for Grotesque parts. Some of the Cronos tentacles should work as well.
I really like the proper Khymerae models, but I just can't justify spending over $1 per point for them.

| It boggles my mind that GW thinks people will spend ~£9 per model for the Khymerae instead of £15 for 10 dire wolves or chaos hounds or whatever. Just need to buy some 40mm bases and you're done. I'm not even going to convert mine as I think it should be fairly obvious what they are. | |

| I've now got some of the Dire Wolves and - though I've not assembled them yet - they look fine for the purpose.
I also have some chaos spawn tentacles, but personally I think Hormagaunt/Genestealer talons would be better, if I had any - they look more like the official model.
As Count Adhemar says though, the conversion probably isn't strictly necessary in any case - it's just something I want to do!
It's too bad that leaving them on 25x50 bases probably wouldn't fly though, so I can't also use them in WHFB too. Actually, I might look in to how easy it would be to give them swappable magnetized bases...

| Hormagaunt talons look better, more sinister, Genestealer ones look look stumpy and blunt in comparison. | |
