| Morning Denizens, So a long time ago I had some Dark Angels, some Orks and some Eldar, and I was a kid. Now I'm a grown up and me and my buds have decided to give 40k another go (and it has changed a lot) just in time for what seems like an imminent 6th edition arrival. Now we started this a few months back, one guy got 1000 points of Necrons and I put together 1000 points of Crimson Fists, but then I realised how boring it was to walk around in power armour and I wanted a new challenge. I'll be facing Tau, Orks, Necrons, IG and CSM so I wanted to choose a a different force and build an all comers list that is competetive but doesn't get too serious and tournamenty as I'm a sucker for fluff and not a fan of spam Enter Dark Eldar. So here I am to learn how on earth to use these guys effectively, I can see lots of low T and lots of low AV but so much wickedly evil stuff to field and so much variety! I've already done a bit of googling and can see that DE units seems to get a whole spectrum of analysis that is confusing me greatly, for example one guy says Hellions are terrible, and then the next says they are amazing... I'm here to build a terrifying dread fleet of my own. | |

| Welcome back! I´m sure you´ll enjoy the DE. The models are fun to paint and the army plays completely different to power armor tediousness. Michael | |

| greetings, as a fellow fluff fan i can tell you you're really going to struggle to fit everything you want into a list, but in a fun way at least. I'll echo demagoge too and say the models really are the best in the whole of 40k, and i've painted a lot over the years! | |

Yeah I've already been talked out of making a pure Wych cult by my local GW manager, it seems DE have some great synergy if you get the right build. Luckily it also seems that the DE fluff can accomodate a lot of diversity!

| the diversity is the kiler, in the end i decided to cut out all the coven units just so i could realistically limit elite and fast attack options to 3 of each. That being said, I'd love to see an opponents face if I dropped 30 scourges and 3 full units of trueborn on them, 180 shardcarbine shots anyone? | |

| I'd got to more like 20: 180 shots of which 120 hit, 60 wound and 40 of which are saved. Still, 2 full tactical squads dead per turn is nothing to sniff at to my mind. | |

| Scourges are one of the units I hear mixed opinions of but adore the models, I can't fault those shard carbines though and putting down huge dice against Necrons seems to be an efficient way to counter their "Hi, your round of shooting didn't actually do anything because we are alive again" rule. | |

| Welcome back to the game. I also took a very long break (from the start of 3e to the start of 5e) so I know it can be a bit of a culture shock. The game has changed immensely and it will take a while to get back into it but it's still a helluva lot of fun! | |

| Good to see you rejoining 40k, and better still to see you give into our depraved ways.
Anyway, Scourges are awesome as long as you don't allow them to get shot by big weapons or assaulted by a mob of inumerable Ork Boyz. I love my Scourges.

| I love the idea of boosting around taking off heads with the reavers, but also harrassing tanks with scourges... oh so much choice and so many cool minis! | |

| Yes, they can, but Scourges are better at it. With Scourges every 1 in 2.5 models can have heavy weapons, instead of ever 1 in 3, as is the case with Reavers. Reavers may be more survivable with higher toughness, but the Sardcarbines and Ghostplate armour for Scourges makes them worth it, in my opinion. | |

| Well, personally I have never got on with Reavers, even though I want the models because of how awesome they are. I find Scourges much better for their points cost.
Anyhow, enjoy Commorragh, DelctableTea. I look forward to seeing your army no matter what you decide.

Hehehe, the only reason you are seeing my spangly smile is because I need to sarpen my knife. It's a bit blunt, but I think I could still have your appendix out?

| Ah, 2nd edition. Individual combats, dice modifiers all over the place, and a psykers had their own phase where you played a card game. Good times. (The fact that I was 12 when 2E came out is a likely factor here.)
But welcome back to the fold! With a new edition coming out on about a month this is a good time to start playing - especially if you plan to buy used miniatures from any "40k is RUINED FORVER" players who can't stand edition changes.

| Welcome back to the hobby. I'm also a 2nd edition veteran who recently returned (I saw the release of 3rd, with the dark eldar, but never played it). I've held off on getting in to 5th, but it seems it won't be much longer until 6th arrives. | |
