Poll - Base Colours

I recently bought a load of bases from Voodoworx for my Dark Eldar army, and wanted to get your opinion on what colour they should be. My first thought was to mimic the scheme on their website, as it provides a nice, dark counterpoint to my otherwise quite bright scheme. I've since seen a really excellent marble tutorial on Chest of Colours, and thought that could make a good alternative. Question is, would that make the whole ensemble too light/bright, and would it be worth all that extra effort?

marble sounds intersting... although why dont you do a test model of both and see which you like better???

I think marble is good as it is fairly neutral.

The darker base will contrast really well with the yellow colour scheme.

I'd say it depends on your yellow, but I would also consider an ashwaste kind of darker base. I'm lookint at doing something similar, inspired by Evil Space Elf.

Thanks for all your input so far. Now that I have a set of Wytches nearly done, I'm going to go with Shadow's Revenge's idea, and try one base of each. Now, the black with green edge highlights is the easiest technique by far, and might end up winning based purely on that. Nevertheless, I shall persist with trying a marble base, though you will have to wait a little longer for that.

Please bear in mind that all the colours look brighter and a little lighter in real life. I'll try to get some decent pictures in natural light later this week if I can.

honestly, i think the black is too severe against the yellow. i think the marble effect would complement the colour scheme better. you could always leave the outside ring of the base black if it needs darekning a bit more.

also, if you havent already, maybe put some dark grey highlights onto the hair (or drybrush really lightly with a grey if you prefer) to break up the flat black. not sure if you've done it already as the flash is a bit severe.

Hmm, good point, though I still quite like the contrast. Maybe I need to take the base down to dark green rather than pure black?

As for the hair, I agree. I've left it like that until I decide which colour base I want to go with, If it's the black one, I'll put grey highlights in the hair. If not, I might go with either a green highlight like the black base has, or perhaps dark blue/purple to tie in with the blue accent colour.

The blue would probably work better, as long as it's not too blue. A subtle, cool highlight to the hair will offset the warmth of the yellow very well, I think.

Perhaps the stegadon green/sotek green/temple guard blue combo from the new GW line would work. It's a bluish-green/turquoise that would complement the yellow if not overdone.
Never mind, didn't see the blue knee armour. I would go with something dark bluish.
