Slow and Purposeful - 2000k Coven list

I really like coven lists, and while I think the following isn't really doable wit hreal GW models, I have playtested it with Vassal several times and it is just plain mean. I lack a bit in the anti-mech department, but hey. What do you think?


2000k - Haemonculus Coven

- Haemonculus with Venom Blade and WWP
- Haemonculus with Venom Blade and WWP

- 10 Grotesques with Liquifier and Aberration with Scissorhand (Haemonculus goes here)
- 9 Grotesques with Liquifier and Aberration with Scissorhand (Haemonculus goes here)

- 10 Wracks with 2 Liquifiers and Acothyst with Agoniser
- 10 Wracks with 2 Liquifiers and Acothyst with Agoniser
- 10 Wracks with 2 Liquifiers and Acothyst with Agoniser
- 6 Wracks with Liquifier
- 6 Wracks with Liquifier

- 5 Scourges with 2 Heat Lances

- Talos with Chain Flails and sync. Heat Lance
- Talos with Chain Flails and sync. Heat Lance
- Talos with Chain Flails and sync. Heat Lance

Total: 1999 points


The basic idea is to deploy only the Grotesques with the Haemonculi and rush forward, the big unit giving cover to the smaller one. First round, one of the units activates the portal, while the second continues rushing forward in order to get to a better position for the second portal.
The Scourges are announced to be deployed per deep-strike, but should come through the portal as long as the position is okay. Otherwise they do indeed deepstrike near the juciest target.
19 Grotesques are a lot of wounds and very (VERY) hard to shift. In all the games I have played with them, so far I've always brought them into close combat.

So, what do you guys think?

Seems like you've found your list one problem I can see for you is dawn of war (you need to deploy at least one haemie so you can get the WWP down but can't put the grots with him) and for this alone I'd find a way to get a 3rd naked haemie in.

I have indeed thought about this problem. But why should I buy a naked Hameonculus in your opinion? Couldn't I just start him with one of the Wracks, use one of the small units as mobile cover and as soon as the lone Grotesque unit arrives, I attach him to it?

Other question: Would you play with/against this list? Why (/not)?

This doesn't work as you will want your webway as far into the board as you can not 8" in from your edge

I play against any list, as to would I play it no but thats because I write my own list with my own play style built into them as you have done with this list.

But I would start the game with 1 HQ and 2 troops: one Haemonculus and two Wrack Units. In that way I can deploy them normally, can I not? So I deploy one unit with the Haemonculus as far as up to 24" into the field, the second unit in front of it to grant cover if needed. First turn the big unit of Grotesques with the other Haemonculus walks on board and everything else starts in reserve.

Granted, it loses on effectivity, but it doesn't stop me from having a portal up on turn one.

No but without the IC (haimie) the 2nd grot unit has to make tests to see if it self destructs with your method the haemie that drops the portal has to wait around for the grots to turn up without getting his ugly butt shot off.
